Well after talking to a family friend who is also a mechanic, I believe it's about that time. After 186000 hard driven miles, the car is starting to smoke and is burning oil and I believe the problem is in the valves. If anybody has an old blown 420a that could be used to rebuild please let me know. And if anybody has done just a basic rebuild, could you please let me know the best place to get parts for this engine and roughly how much it's gonna cost me. I have the knowledge and resources to rebuild the engine myself or if I can't do it myself I have people to help so that may save me some money. I just want a basic reliable engine

well i dont have a 420a but i do have a 4g63 short block. the crank is good in it but you may need to get some pistons and ull need a head... if you want i could get you a head or whatever. i have the block, crank, and an extra oil pan. its a turbo motor soo its plummed for turbo as well....i have a few turbo parts if you would want those as well...you can get you a turbo for pretty cheap, just dont get junk

and if you want me to i can go ahead and do a balance shaft delete soo you wouldnt have to worry about that belt snapping or wearing out in the future, just one less thing to worry about

that's a really great offer, but incase you didn't know, that 4g63 motor wont fit in the 420a engine bay without some serious custom work. The cheaper route would be to drop in another 420a motor.

As far as the core motor goes, you could probably fine one really cheap on craigslist.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Hey 16g1g, let me know how much you want for it but I'm gonna look into how much it'll take to do the swap before I make a decision on if I wanna go that route or not

i was under the impression that the early 4g turbo cars had the motor and trans in the same way as the 420a cars? anyways, after doing some research, i think i'm gonna have to pass on that offer. as much as i'd like to do the swap and thats also a good deal from what i've seen, but this car is my only car and is my daily driver and i need it to get back and forth from school and work everyday, so i dont believe right now i could afford to do the swap, and i cant have my car down for the amount of time it would take to do it. i will talk to somebody i know who may be interested though and let you know if he wants it. but for now, i'm gonna be stuck with the 420a

i need some help from somebody who has already rebuilt a 420a engine. i've been doing some research on what i'm gonna need to get an engine that is just as good as it was when it drove off the lot brand new, but i need help with the head. i dont have a motor yet to start with other than the one in the car and i dont have the time to be able to pull that one out and rebuild it because i need the car. but i'm trying to get an estimate on how much it will cost after i do find an engine to work on so here are a few questions that i have
1. if i only want to get the car running like it was brand new, will i need to get a new crank or just have mine polished?
2. will all the same head parts from a srt-4 work on my 420a?
3. has anybody used howell automotive? if not, where is a good vendor to get parts for the 420a?
i have never actually went through all the steps of buying and getting parts and everything for an engine, but i do have experience building a few chevy 350 backup motors with a friend for his race car and i have taken a class in high school where we just rebuild a typical 6cyl. cummins turbo diesel and a 5hp briggs motor so i do have some experience, but i also will have help putting everything together and i want the learning experience so i dont want to just buy a new longblock and slap it in and call it done. i just need some help here and there so if there is anybody who has done this before on this motor, please chime in. i would really appreciate it

If you really want to make a good 420A project just get the evo 8 complete swap. Yes its going to cost some money but its one of the most respected swaps and almost of non existance . :hellyeah:
