For some unknown reason, my car just decided not to start this weekend. I try to start my car and theres a ticking from the ecu area, and it only ticks when I try to start my car. I have no cd player in and theres a huge open hole and I hear the noise comming from in there. My main concern is does this mean my ecu is fried? I searched for the past 30 mins or so on the site but I dont really have the time to search anymore for I have to much to do today. I know there are some relays under there and im sure it could be one of them also. Any ideas on this?

your caps are bad, stop driving the car and replace them before the acid starts leaking onto components on your ecu and making the repair that much harder to do. Also, check your isc and anything else steve tells you to do. Wait til steve replies for more info as he is the god of dsm ecu's

My ecu was fried, but yours might not be. It probably is though

funny, they say these capacitors last about 10 years, and mitsu would have started selling the 1997 model year of the eclipse in 1996, aka 10 years ago

I agree. Likely the PCM doing the death rattle. Might be time for that new EPROM pcm you've had your eye on. I don't see as many 2g pcm's dying as the 1g's were famous for. However, it can happen.

Good Luck
