I have a thunking noise in my front passenger side. I pulled the car up on the raps and it dosen't seem to be anything loose. I check the transaxle, the steering rod and just about everything else I could get to under there. I then went and made sure everything was tight in the engine bay, i.e. battery, sway bar, fuse box, cruise control and just about everything on that side. That was a week ago. It started to get worse so I opened the hood and started bounce with the palm of my hand on the coil over and I could hear a slight clicking and feel some the click in the coil over. Any ideas. I have GAB adjustable struts with eibach springs. I was thinking about ordering all the rubber stuff that goes under there and changing it out but I don't know if I can use the factory stuff or not. Any ideas would be appreciated. I just hope its not a shock because I love those eibachs.

Suspension noises, particularly on the iffy-ball-jointed DSM, are not things you can let go. It's also not things easily diagnosed by someone not very experienced in the area of suspension. Get it to a good front-end shop. A checkup won't cost much, and it's money very well spent.

Jack it up and put it on a jack stand under the frame. Let the suspension hang with no load on it. Get positioned so you can shake the tire left right and up and down with some force. Make sure the car is stable so it doesn't fall on ya. This might give you more clues...

When you say ball joints do you mean for the steering rods? Also it makes a creaking sound when I turn the wheel while not rolling.

Check the nut on the top of the strut.

EDIT: and by ball joints, he means the connection between the lower(only) control arm and the bottom of the steering knuckle.

Hi guys. i have a 93 talon with a 6-bolt cyclone. my problem started yesterday. i was at a complete stop on a red light. i went on the green and i soon as i accelerated i heard and felt a "pop" or "clunk noise" coming from somewhere in the drivetrain. im thinking maybe by the subframe.

please help id appreciate it thanks

CV joints? (though usually only when you turn).

Also check your ball joints on the control arms. I had a ball joint fail on my 2G suspension that took me months to figure out felt like an engine mount or bushing on the subframe. Turned out to be a ball joint. Found it while tighting a lug nut. Noticed the sound of it Clicking as I tightened the lug nut by hand. turned the wheel and could see the ball joint flopping around as it tightned.

ill give it a check. although the noise is heard loudly...and i feel a hard pop.....could that little ball joint cause all this??? well how do i chek it?

Mine was very loud and I could feel it through the floor pan. Try and do everything possible to move the ball joints around. Also check the sway bar ball joints. They should move some... but not be loose. If that makes any sense. You can try the tightening of the lug nut as I suggested above. Or lift the front end and move the control arms around.

sorry if i sound a little stupid...do i have to take the rims to check the ball joint? if not how exactly do i check it without taking the rim off.

I found that it was the ball joints, in my case, while tightening the lug nuts onto the rims. I then had to take off the rims to verify it. Taking the rims off removes some weight from the hubs and allows for free'r movement of the ball joints. Also it allows you to get better access for inspecting them.

Its up to you how you want to tackle it.

I would first check the ball-joint on the "curved" lower control arm. If its bad it will cause a knock noise an vibration at 60mph and up. Jack up the car with the wheel on and shake the wheel from left to right. If you shake it hard enough you'll probably hear the noise that you heard. If the wheel has any pay in it when you do that, thats probably your problem.
