so i was driving-came to a stop then started moving, then my car started making a noise.. sounded like a loud clacking noise.. i took it to a shop down the street and they told me i needed a new tranny.. all my gears goes in fine minus the 1st gear that pops back out (this isnt new).. sound gets louder as i accelerate.. either than the sound, the car runs ok.. i was just wondering if i really needed to replace my tranny before i do it.. any help in this would be great.. thanks!

Get a second opinion. It could be a number of things other than a broken tranny. Like the output shaft. If it's poping out of first something isn't right. But that could even be bad cable adjustment.

I agree take it to as many shops as you can even satan (dealer) to get an a diagnosis. Their are to many parts to pin point it down to one specific one.
Goodluck though and remember to post what you find!

When your car is at idle, does the sound seem like it is coming from the rotation of the flywheel or its spinning? I had that problem and mine blew up. hahah twice. Good luck bra!!

maybe 1st gear syncro went out, and there are some metal piece floating around causing some chatter.... I wouldn't drive it much, this happened to mine and I had to replace TONS of tranny parts ($1200 worth), but another look or two will give you a good guess until you take it apart

when at idle, i cant hear the sound, unless its rolling..

i dont drive the car anymore, its sitting in my garage.. :dsm:
