Its a simple question but! i just got my tranny back from shep and he forgot to include my ACT Throw out Bearing! my question is it safe to get the stock Mitsubshi TOB and install that in my tranny or should i wait til Shep sends my Tob back to me? and install tha ACT TOB! i Know what the best thing to do is ! wait for my TOB but i need to install my tranny befor the 2nd and its already the 27 and by the time it gets here its going to be about the 30 of Dec! and a STOCK TOB is runing for about 30 bucks! so what should i do ? is the stock TOB strong? Well thanks and the tranny looks good! i will post pics later!

Thanks for the help!

ACT doesn't make a TOB, they send you the same crap that you can buy at any parts store.

well as far as a stock throw out bearing being strong... not really. just for an example.... my dads 2003 eclipse gts.. that throw out bearing has already bit the dust. car has 20,000 miles on it.

Tyler

get the correct throw out bearing for the tranny... tell shep to send it next day and wire him some money.

I think i might just buy the TOB at NAPA, they get parts of Mits. i just was worried since the clutch is harder but i dont think that matters! it be better getting a new one any ways and it should come with all the clips and etc. is there anywhere i can buy a stronger TOB? i looked around but cant find anything! thanks fellas for the quick response! gotta love DSM TUNERS! :thumb:

The throw out bearing that ACT ships with their clutch kits are the exact same as the OEM TOB's now. They dont make their own anymore. Might as well just go buy a new OEM one since they are the exact same part anyway.

just so you know, the ones napa will get u are metal where as the act one and oem will be plastic....the plastic is preferred but metal would be ok too...i just got a napa one for my 90

SWEET! thanks fellas! thats why i post! you goes are good! hahah But thanks again i am about to go to napa! it stop raining so when i get back i am going to start the install! any tips when installing my tranny? But again THANKS for the help.

dude i feel for you, i just got done putting a tranny in one car and ripping apart half of another one...if you can remind me, by pm or something, i will take a picture of how it goes on in the morning...u did put that clip in right and made sure it went into the fork?

Yup the return clip went on top of the TOB and on the side of the Fork and in on the sides of the TOB i went of the manual! so i am thinking it feel of or got loose during the install! but at least the damage is not that bad! I HOPE! all i have to do is get another TOP where can i locate a PLASTIC TOB? since a few members said metal is bad a plastic is better ! well that would be great if you can take a pic i PM you tommorow via paypal and here if i see your not online

Ah man dont get the metal one! It wears down the aluminum collar around the input shaft. Plastic is better.

That's because you're supposed to put lube it. A thick grease is needed on the quill. 99% of people forget that.

Also, the OEM TB is exactly that. A product made by a Origional Equipment Manufacturer. (ie a supplier) Not Mitsubishi. When you go to NAPA, Autozone, or Murreys, they generally have parts made by: 1. the OEM. 2. Another supplier. SO, in general most of you are buying the EXACT same part at an auto parts store.

So what are you saying that mitsubishi didnt grease them up from the factory? LOL Eventually that grease will wear off man. And the metal ones are deff going to wear down that collar more than a plastic one, greased or not.

Sounds like you didn't tighten your flywheel down and it came loose. You MUST TQ it down to at least 85-90ft/lb. Your standard cheesy ass impact gun will not do that.

i did not take of my flywheel! at all, after taking of the tranny but i am thinking it got llose anyways during the install? i hope its not that bad! and the metal shavings look yellow like the side of th ACT clutch! today it started raining bad so i wont be able to drop the trnany and see what happend! but THIS SUCKS MAJOR !! AZZZ! but i guess it happens i put grease on all the areas the manual said to! fork and bearing and etc.... damn this sucks is there any way i can tell if its the TOB that feel out with out taking the tranny out? and that return clips holds the TOB in place it looked weak? but i went also of the man. well thanks goodfellas for the help!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! any ways haha To All and remember BE SAFE!!!

Juice! :dsm: :thumb:  :dsm:  all the faces you DSm will give you hahah Late Fellas!

Stick to the OEM plastic TOB, metal TOB's tend to wear out the input shaft. Also befor installation get the input shaft as smooth as possible. What i do is i lightly sand the input shaft with very, very fine sand paper untill smooth, once its smooth i polish it to a miror finish with some steel wool. Then i grease up all of the input shaft and install the TOB. :talon:

thanks for the help! i am about to drop the tranny today and see what happend! i will do as you said! i just hope its not bad! and has something to do with my clutch of flywhee! i will also try to find a OEM TOB i went to the dealer and they had the mtal one! so i need to look around for another palstic TOB well thanks fellas and hope you all had a good new year!

Is there any way to replace the shaft that the TOB sits on? the previous owner had used a metal TOB and the shaft is scored to the point that if i try to get it smooth, I might take off too much material.
Also, how snug should the TOB be on the shaft, I can wobble it a bit when it's on there.
