ive had my car for about a year now and every now and then it would idle high. i realized that my safc said the tps was at 3% or near that and wasnt sure why. well lately its been doing this alot more now and when it does idle high i can sometimes push down on the pedal real fast and let it swing back and this would close it and not cause it to idle high anymore. now when it does it, it sometimes reads up to 6% and i cant always push the gas to get it to shut. i then have to go under the hood and push the throttle closed..
does anyone know why this is doing it and how to fix this? thanks

also it doesnt do it all the time but usually a few times during the day.

anyone?

This is the problem im having now. Not to bump threads but i think we can help each other out. You probably have to clean your TB where the plate closes in its cylinder. Mine does the exact same thing and i have to pop the hood and move the throttle plate to its closed position. My cable isnt too tight because it dosnt pull it back open. So i will be cleaning that TB again:(

+1 to cleaning the throttle plate:thumb: It can get a buildup on it which doesn't allow it to fully close. Take off the elbow going into the throttle body and clean it out with some cleaner and that should help remedy your problem. :)

it does it mainly when the car is warm. But i did notice some build up when i cleaned it the first time. It almost looks like black rtv or tar. The throttle cable is perfect.

If it is mainly when it is warm it's because your throttle cable needs adjusted. Believe it or not when the temps in the bay rise it causes the throttle cable to shrink and expand due to the adjusting temperatures. When it's hotter the cable shrinks thus opening the throttle plate a little bit raising your idle so try loosening the throttle cable just a hair at the bolts on the intake manifold that are used for adjusting it.

I had an issue like this as well where the throttle plate would stick and I could feel it through the pedal. It happened after I rebuilt the TB and eventually narrowed it down to the throttle plate not being 100% centered which caused the plate to catch on the bottom portion of the TB. Readjusted the plate and the problem went away.
