throttle is stuck?

so this morning i was just showing off, kinda reved my engine a little bit (being a jag) when i reved my engine my throttle had seemed to stick and it was red-lineing. i turned the car off right away and smoke was coming from the side of my car and there was a weird smell from the smoke.. i started it back up after a few seconds and the RPM's just shot right back up to redline. any ideas as to what the problem is?

Why dont you look at the throttle body. ItS cable operated. If the problem is mechanical the problem is likely evident.
