My TB on 1g 7-bolt motor is leaking and trying to find out what the best option is:

1) Buy a kit and take TB apart and replce every seal/gasket myself.

2) Buy a refurbishid TB from a member or discount vendor who has already taken one apart and put all new seals in it.

3) Buy a used TB from a member for cheap who can verify it does not leak at a min of 15 lbs boost.

4) Send mine out to a member who might be good at overhauling them.

Looking to go cheap on this but not looking forward to doing it myself unless it's something fairly easy to do. My TB is in good shape other than a couple seal leaks at BISS + where throttle spring is and car drives + idles good except at higher boost.

It's easy to fix. My first time rebuilding it took me maybe an hour because I was taking my time and marking all major parts. Follow the vfaq on the TB rebuild. You just need shaft seals and a new o ring on the BISS.

Get new screws for the valve plate though.

Where can I buy the scews, BISS o-ring, shaft seals etc so I can do a complete job on this and approx how much?

I have a N/T TB from 6-bolt motor sitting in my basement so should I take that apart and if those parts I need look good transplant them into my turbo 7-bolt TB? Then sell N/T TB to a place that buys any condition TB's for rebuild purposes?

It really depends on the condition of your throttle body as to how much will need replaced.

You can get shaft seals from a variety of places, including Mach V, STM, and JNZ.

You can find the shaft screw size in one of the VFAQ articles. I buy these at my local hardware store.

You will probably have a hard time removing the FIAV screws if you plan to take that off and replace the gasket. Be prepared to have some (maybe all) strip on you. You can get replacements at the local hardware store.

The shaft screws might also strip.

BISS screw and o-ring, ISC o-ring, and FIAV gasket can be bought through an OEM parts dealer.

No, you do not want to mix and match parts between throttle bodies. There are some minute differences that can cause issues.

Let me know if you need any more info. Or if you just want to buy one from me :p

If you have a NT TB, you should get that one rebuild. If you look and compare that one to your turbo TB, the inlet has an extra piece of piping that eliminates the TB elbow and a gasket. You'll have to fab up some extra IC piping but it's worth it IMO.

For the plate screws, just make sure that the screwdriver you use (philips) is the correct fittment and apply pressure when you unscrew it. The screws are hammered on the back side to prevent them from backing out.

The shaft seals are different between the NT and turbo TBs. I just used 2 or 3 #7 orings on the shaft with some Danco grease (made for the orings) and it holds boost great.

You'll need a multimeter to reinstall the TPS correctly and unless the FIAV is bad, you don't need to take it off. The screws on there are a PITA and I only took mine off so I could replace every seal.

Give it some thought and read over the FAQ on how to rebuild it and understand it. If you feel it's over your head or you don't want to mess with it then send it off to Brian (Snowboarder714) and he'll get it done for you. I could do it too, but I don't have access to a media blaster to make it like new :p
