Thoughts on Redline MT-85?

Hey guys,
Ive been searching around the forums and not seeing anything about this MT-85. I am going to be changing my fluids soon and i was planning on mixing MT-90 with MTL, but going on the redline site it looks like this MT-85 is the best of both worlds. Anyone have any experience using it? Does it seem like good stuff?

As far as benefits from using MT-90 and MTL over MT-85, I couldn't tell you. I am currently running MT-85 in my tranny and from whatever crap was in it before to now, I have definitely noticed a big difference in shifting quality along with other shifting mods that I did. I would recommend the MT-85 just because I believe it was formulated to replace the mixing of the two so if you ever have to add a little fluid, you will already have the right fluid and not have to worry about having a mixed version. Just seemed easier to me.

It must be fairly new. About 4 years ago when I was researching what tranny fluid to use I don't recall seeing that anywhere. I ended up going with the MT-90/MTL mix and have been very happy with it. BUT, had MT-85 been available then I think I would have gone with that. IMO, go with the MT-85. I know that doesn't answer your original question about personal experience with the MT-85 but from reading the description on Redline's web site it seems that it should work quite well in our trannys.

I've also read very good things about the factory tranny oil for the EVO 8/9 MR but it's a bit expensive.

As others have already stated, ML-85 was made so that we didn't have to mix the ML-90 and MTL cocktail. You can't go wrong with it. I ran a fresh rebuild off the old cocktail, no problems.

It's good stuff but I was just told by Jon from TRE that I should go back to MT-90 due to the amount of torque I'm making (he just rebuilt my trans and saw some wear on the gear mesh surfaces). I'm guessing, since you don't have your profile filled out, that you are closer to stock levels and MT-85 will be awesome for you.

I just put in my Shep transmission not 3 months ago and with it came a pre installation note stating the following.

"We recommend Redline MT90 for most applications. For higher HP applications we recommend a 50/50 mix of Redline Lightweight Shockproof and Redline MT90. (DO NOT USE THIN FLUID LIKE REDLINE MTL)"​

I took the advice and saved the letter so I never forget.
