thoughts on exhaust set up

Hey guys Im havin my 2 1/2 exhaust done today(mandrel bend) from downpipe to cat back. I have a 2 1/4 pressbent catback, stock downpipe with no cat on as of now. It sounds good but I want it deeper so Im going to have the guy get rid of my my ebay muffler and just run straight pipe with a exhaust tip!!

Will this be too loud or sound good at all? Should I just keep the muffler?

I would add a resonator to the mix. A cheap glass pack set back from the tip should help quiet it down. You could always bolt in a high flow cat later to quiet it down a bit more.

BTW, I'm doing a no muffler 3" exhaust as soon as all my parts arrive.

No muffler & no cat, yes, defently will be on the loud side. My first thought is why aren't you getting 3"? I would install some kind of muffler.

Well Im not going higher than a small 16g so I thought 2 1/2 was good. Only lookin for 320 motor hp!

So is this a nasty lound or sweet loud? If nasty, that ebay muffler is going back on

I would try it both ways. You should be able to clamp the muffler on pretty easily just to test it out. I think it should be tolerable with a resonator. Depending on local police and your own tolerance you may be fine with absolutely straight through. I ran open O2 for a long time and wasn't too annoyed.

Personally, I would do something to quiet it a bit. Glass packs are cheap and the shop should have access to them.

Even if you only plan to go a 16g max, you never know your plans could change in the future. Plus a 3" will still work great on a 16g, hell it even help alot when I was runner the tiny stocker t25. Remember back pressure is something you don't want in a turbo car. A 3" will help out in both the top end and lower spool time. As for the sound, it is probably going to be a nasty sound. I know it won't be quite as bad but I've run the car with just the downpipe & its was dame loud even at idle & sounded like ass.

The sound you are going to get is a loud loud well just loud noise. Trust me i tried it when i got my car it had a tip welded onto the stock exhaust so i unbolted it all and ran from in front of the cat. Bad idea sounds like uh lets just say its bad you'll need some kind of muffler trust me.

Yeah, you definately want a muffler. Get the Magnaflow 3" straight through. It makes an "S" turn through the muffler, but there's no baffles/walls to get in the way. I'd agree with telling you to get a 3". I went from a 2.5" press bent to 3" mandrel bent setup on a 16g with stock boost and the difference was huge. Faster spool and better top end. If you're going to spend the money, do it right. Remember, you want it throaty and deep...BUT NOT LOUD! Loud only attracts cops. Do a 3" if you can, but either way put in a magnaflow muffler for that stock look with good performance.

yea i agree I dont want loud exhaust either, think about it,, you like to speed right... Well if your cars screaming and being loud your basically putting an advertisment light over your car saying "look cops im speeding" But a car thats pretty quiet they wont notice you at all when you get on it... You just want a tough throaty sound that can be heard nicely at full throttle, but at idle and regular cruising its mellow and deep and isnt something that draws too much attention... If you dont run a muffler it will sound like a truck kind of, it will be real raspy sounding because my friend ran without a muffler for a couple months and it sounded intimidating at full throttle, but just driving normal it sounds kind of nasty and it never sounded like he was cruising when he was...
