This a Mitsubishi MLS?

I bought that from Bruce(partsdinosaur) and I finally installed it on my fresh 7 bolt the other day. The quality seems very good and it LOOKS strong. Ill have to wait and see how it holds up once I actually drop the engine and drive it...

It is a replica OE part, most people live and die by OEM but I'm sure it will do just as good. Good for those who don't want to fork out over $100 for a mitsu mls.

I'm not sure I would want to skimp $20 to buy a generic OEM MLS HG imitation. Not on a head gasket. ;)

The term OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. What does that really mean? It means that the part was made by a company that is a subcontractor to a vehicle manufacturer. It DOES NOT mean the part was made by the manufacturer. Some examples;

Most fuel parts on a VW are made by Bosch. This means that Bosch is the OEM for VW regardless of where you buy the Bosch part it is still OEM.
Tong Yang (A Chinese company) is the OEM light, mirror and radiator subcontractor for Nissan and Toyota.
Hella is an OEM light supplier to many of the European vehicles.
Almost all remanufactured parts are OEM as the original part is rebuilt which does not change whom made the part.
It has long been a common missconception that only a vehicle dealership carries OEM parts. Though they would like you to beleive that, it is not the case. Many if not most parts you get from a dealership you can also get elsewhere for less money made by the exact same company in a different box.

When buying auto parts keep in mind that the term OEM does not make the part better only "the same as". Many aftermarket parts (parts made as spare parts not as a part mounted on the original car) are as good and in many cases better than the original part. There are a few very low quality manufacturers of parts. Most of the ones I have had personal experience with and in my opinion are of the lowest quality have not come from Asian countries. So as with all auto parts purchases. Get a warranty from a reputable seller whom will take a return if there is a problem.

With this being said,

spoke with the guys at the dealership about the mitsubishi oem mls gasket . Come to find out a little about several parts. Mitsu dealer pistons are supplied by ITM. 3g lifters are supplied by topline. And its obvious if you have this mls head gasket and the oem gasket side by side that its also supplied by the same company that supplies mitsubishi with their oem gaskets. I have been building these engines for some time now and I see no difference in these two gaskets other than a few numbers that's stamped on them infact the price this one sells for is the same price the so call oem gasket sold for until supply and demand from the dealer standpoint drove up the price to 114.00 retail if you bought it from the dealer AKA satan!. Replica I don't think so:aha:

I've always wondered, if oem parts are so great why isn't everyone driving around in bone stock cars? Call a dealer and ask about a set of pistons and rings, they cost more than wisecos, must be better. Part of the reason for car forums is for people to find deals on parts, other than the dealer rip offs.

You are preaching to the choir. I will buy the Mitsubishi OEM part (IN THIS CASE) if it costs only $20 more. It gives me the piece of mind. Something that has been proven. I am not that much of a cheapass. You guys can justify it all you want. I am old school and trust parts that come with the Mitsu sticker on them. Thanks.

If you can find another part that works as good while saving that $5, power to you. :thumb:
