Ive got a manual AWD right now and for some reason an auto AWD is appealing to me, im not looking into a swap here, im looking into getting another car in the future, ive got a few questions before i get deeper into this thought...

1. How much time does the auto give up over the manual in terms of 1/4 mile times, equally modded or stock for stock comparison.

2. What are typical 60' times in auto awd on street tires

3. What are the hp limits of a 2g awd auto tranny

Autos make much better drag cars because they're alot more reliable, in the sense that they're more consistent and easier to drive for better times...

Although some people will consider it cheating.. like training wheels ROFL

Auto transmission take ALOT more abuse. A restall, tranny cooler, and shift kit with upgrade valvebody will be your friend and all you need to handle more frequently what a 5 speed can handle. As well, manny of the TCUs are eprom (well for the 1g anyway), so having thorough control over the auto is rather easy.

Nitrous is cheating. It has to be refilled as a poweradder. Water/meth injection has to be refilled too, but so does race gas; so that's a wash.

Running an auto isn't cheating any more than making a better decision about a tuning solution :p

But, where is the fun in that? Also, I think i'm just as consistent in my manual, as an auto!

I don't think its cheating, and who ever does is a retard! Racing is racing, auto or not!

Automatic trannys are cheating?? I thought of it as a handicap :) Anyway, what kind of 60' times are expected out of a stock auto awd tranny on street tires?

I personally think this is a terrible idea. I don't understand why anyone other than girls and non car guys would ever get an automatic. Half the fun of the driving experience is having more control over your car. Sure no human can possibly shift as fast as a computer, but I would rather enjoy the drive more and have slightly slower shifts. That's just me though and I'm sure many will disagree for various reasons.

The auto during launch gives the suspension proper preload, which should be much easier on the drivetrain, making it less likely to break parts.
The auto can be very consistent as well, which can be helpful when racing for money at the track, whether it be bracket, grudge match, etc.
When using the "blue wire" mod, there is nothing girly about the shifts:D

They can also be much less of a headache over the manuals for our cars.

to each his own, i have an a/t awd and love it, have i thought about changing it over to manual yes, but then i think about the times at the track where i've been put down because its an auto and then endup making them eat there words in track time because they cant shift LOL.

hp limits, not sure, i've seen them up in the 350's with out issues, but IPT builds some means ones as you can throw what ever your heart wants. I have a reworked valve body w/shift kit, and upgraded end clutches and im happy as a lark.

I had an auto awd 1g and loved it. It shifted pretty hard even in stock form. No boost loss between shifts is a plus too.
