Just picked up a 92 gsx auto.

From what I've read these are supposed to come with the smaller 13g turbo.
However the compressor side of the turbo on the car says TD05H which Is bigger than a 13g.

Car looks completely stock everywhere under the hood, so I'm wondering if the previous owner swapped to a 14b turbo or im just retarded.

Thanks for the help.

Post a picture of the compressor wheel and we'll know for sure. TD05H is definitely not a 13g housing though.

If is says td05 and not td04 it's a 14b or possibly a 16g, most likely swapped by previous owner.

Pics would definatly pin point it.

I'll take a picture of it tomorrow. Hopefully it's a 14b, that'd be sweet. I would cry from happiness if it was a 16g. LOL

The only way we could tell if its a 14 or 16 is if you take a picture of the turbine OR there will be a code on the side of the compressor housing. That code you can use it and search on google to see if its a 14 or 16. The only way that code will be wrong is if the previous owner boutght that turbo from a mechanic that did a 16 build on a stock 14b compressor housing.(doubtfull)

Or you can look at the compressor wheel. The 14b will have fins that are all the same size. The 16g will have one tall, one short.

Well thank you for clearing that up, I didn't know personally what the difference was between the turbine wheel and compressor wheel. Probly cause I never rebuilt a turbo my self, just replaced them.

To back up bryan, the 16g, and 14b turbine wheel are the same.Compressor wheel is the only thing that is different.

Same as 13g's and 15g's,turbine wheels are the same, again with different compressor wheels.

So everyone here can be clear on the correct terminology:

Compressor is on the cold or intake side.
Turbine is on the hot or exhaust side.

I would suggest getting a manual manifold or 2g manifold. The 1g auto manifold is horribly small.

I don't think a 14b bolts to a 13g manny, but either way, if someone swapped on a 14b, I hope they'd know to do the manifold too.

Just to clarify yes they do, all 1g turbos use the same manifold, which is the same as the 2g just flows less. Uses the standard square mitsu flange.

1g manuals have a different manifold than 1g autos because of the different turbos. Reason is the 14b has a 6cm housing and the tiny 13g has a 5cm.

I have both.I can try and see if it will bolt up.Here is a better pic of the difference between manifolds. The runners as you can see in the other pic are smaller on the auto manifold.
