today i was driving to school and went to pass some old lady so i dropped into 3rd and passed her, while do so, i heard a loud popping noise followed by a high pitched whirring noise which continued when i began to accelerate. I didnt think much of it until i had got to school and noticed the huge amount of thick white smoke coming out of my exhaust. i was like WTF....so i turned off my car, turned it back on ideling, and thick white smoke began to pour out of my exhaust again. I have oil pressure and my engine temp doesnt fluctuate and is in the safe range. my questions is WHAT IS CAUSING THIS THICK WHITE SMOKE TO POUR OUT OF MY EXHAUST!??!?!?!?

update: ive checked my oil level and its fine. But after runnign the engine for a minute smoke comes out of the oil cap hole and the dip stick hole...

sounds like you blew your turbo. check for shaft play. or worse, piston rings.

how can a blown turbo cause white smoke to come out my exhaust, i had good boost when i had to drive it home today from school.

If the seals are blown on your turbo oil is going right in to the exhaust, if cracked, anti-freeze or both. If rings, I think you know the answer to that as well. Do a compression test as well. Most likely turbo due to the sounds you described, you know the ones it makes when the fins are smaking the inside of the housing...

Good Luck! :thumb:

one more thing. you may say oil is blue smoke, TRUE, when it is being burnt and coming out the exhaust valves, not when getting dumped from the turbo to the exhaust. Just figured I'd add that in there for you. :thumb:

what are the signs of a blown turbo? how do i check for signs of shaftplay ?
the decription you gave is a pretty good sign. to check for shaft play, remove the intake hose from the turbo and you will be able to see/feel the compressor wheel. move it in and out and side to side. It should not move more than 1mm if at all.

^ what he said.

Turbo is gone. Check the shaft play, if all is good there, do a leakdown.

^ and what he said

just to re-enforce. And to say.... New turbo time! I suggest the BIG EVOIII 16g :thumb: :D

if the turbo is blown....which i wont find out until i inspect further tomorrow....can a evo 3 16 run on the stock side mount?

i took off my lower IC pipe and about a quart of oil came running out of it. Along with oil dripping from the outlet to the IC pipe....also...the bolt that holds in the turbine wheel moves around quite freely....im guessing thats shaft play?

i cant break all but two of the bolts loose on the heat sheild.....how would i go abotu getting them out? ive already tried a rachet, a wrench, and that penetrating spray

i stuck my finger on the turbine blade bolt, it moved up and down and side to side enough where the blade began to hit the housing,,,

ROFL

I love the PICs.... absolutely love them!!! :thumb:

You definitely blew your turbo, sorry about that, but hey! it's the perfect excuse to get a BIGGER one!! I've had my eye on this turbo for some time now. On the bolts, I've never had an issue but I'm sure the penetrating oil will eventually work, also if you have a propane torch you can try to heat them and loosen them with a 12mm socket. (going off memory on that one, sorry if wrong) Also, are you referring to the bolts that go through the manifold to the exhaust housing on the turbo?

Don't feel bad, I think my 16g is on it's way out too, but I've got other issues keeping my baby in the driveway!

Good Luck! If you have anymore questions, post them. I've been checking this thread every so often.

i cannot thank you enough for helping me throughout this ordeal. depending on what a re-build is going to run me, i might just get something bigger, 16g or convert the T-25 into a T-28...but i cant really afford supporting mods for larger turbos right now, so ill probably end up gettting the T-25 re built and limping around on it for another month or so... Im referring to the bolts that hold the heat shield to the manifold and the turbo....i havent got the the manifold bolts yet.

pb blaster and air tools.. or if you dont have air. use a breaker bar. Go bigger you wont regret it .. just b/c you get a evo 3 doesnt meant you have to get supp mods. You will need supp mods for higher boost levels 10-13 lbs you should be fine on stock setup.

No problem. You can show your appreciation with rep points (rate this post helpful/unhelpful) for ALL the kind people that helped you on this thread. If I had a 14b in good condition to sell you I would hook you up, but both the 14b and t-25 turbos I have are SHOT! I may get another one this weekend, but nothing is certain at this point. Again, good luck! :thumb:

check this one out.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/14b-...ewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQitemZ8000001713QQrdZ1

why rebuild a t-25? such a tiny turbo! I also agree with fwdturbobov1996, you do not have to run the boost that high! You will not regret getting a bigger turbo. I'd hate to see you piss your money away on a tiny t25mall.

My t-25's going too but there's no way I'm rebuilding it. No point dumping money into that tiny turbo at all. You prob could get a couple score dollars for it on ebay. I'm sure there's some sentra owner out there looking for a t-25 to be rebuilt. I calculated that it'll basically take 700+ for a big 16g and 400+ for a HKS bov and Ingen CAI. If you skip the intake and get a crushed 1G, 800 would be pretty much all that you would have to spend. Other supporting mods can be put in after that I think. If I were you I would put in a boost controller, crank the boost all the way down to reduce smoking and save up for the turbo. (That's what I'm gonna do when my smoking get out of hand anyway.)

Learn to spend your money wisely LOL.
