I recently acquired and installed a new, hardly used Thermal R&D exhaust in roughly July. I was very pleased with the exhaust note until I was listening to videos recently and noticed that it does not sound the same as when I first installed it. When I first installed it, the car was super quiet and had a Honda like exhaust note at WOT. Flash forward to now, the car is very loud all the time and does not have that change in tone at WOT. I have double and triple check exhaust connections and am stumped as to why it would be sounding this different than before…

I really hope there’s a different answer, because quite frankly, it sounds like shit now

At no time could i have ever said that my or anyone elses Thermal Exhaust could be referred to as "quiet". If I park at the end of a Walmart lot, I can still here it chugging away as i enter the store when I had a turbo timer. Not sure what you were experiencing before, but I can tell you that if you had expectations of "quiet", this is the wrong exhaust for you.

I am simply trying to explain it sounds loud in the sense that it does not sound healthy or like a proper exhaust note. It sounds like a leak, which I have none

Any raspiness to it? Like a Honda with no resonator? Any chance that you might have a leak further up liked downpipe or exhaust/turbo manifold or o2 housing gasket leak?
The downpipe connection seems sealed to me, but it could possibly be exhaust manifold? I have not even taken a look under that heat shield since I got the car 2 1/2 years ago..

So leaks in that area happened to me last year. My manifold/turbo and my turbo/02 gaskets were bad and I was also experiencing a slight loss in power that was especially noticeable when i released the clutch and started to take off or off the gas rounding a corner and back on it. I put my Shopvac in reverse, stuck it in the tailpipe and sprayed soapy water over the manifolds, o2 and downpipe and I had bubbles for days as you can see in this picture. Check the manifold against the block too.

I have one of these on my spyder. It came with the car. It is quite loud. Coupled with my engine having upgraded cams, it sounds like a V8 at the back of the car. I honestly believe if I started the car in the early morning to take it to work instead of my truck, I'd wake someone up just starting the car, without revs. Would never say it has a Honda sound to it.

They are not per say very loud but they can be heard. We have only had the exhaust note change to more honda like with t3 manifold with close to equal length runners. That exhaust note does not happen with a mitsu bolt on housing turbo from our experience. My personal car had the normal deep sound with any bolt on housing turbo and only become higher pitched and very loud in boost when i went to a morrison t3 manifold and 62mm charger.
