do you know what the extras are? i'm thinking he/she must've either had big plans for the car, or did more than that to it if they swapped in a 1g head... anyone getting the same feeling about this?

big plans, but not a big wallet :D do the usual check, make sure everything works well, make sure the crank isn't walking... i think you'll be fine. don't try to low-ball this person, they seem to know what they have on their hands. great find.

book is between 6k and 7k, considering it's already a little beefier, i'd pay more than book for it, assuming that it's cosmetically and mechanically perfect.

what does he want for it...

i would pay 6 or 7 for it just like they said make sure there are no major damages to it sounds like a really good deal.

KBB puts it at $6200
NADA puts it at $9000

I tend to go with NADA for more accurate pricing. GSX & GST are harder to come by, therefore pull more of a premium price. At least in my area.

You have to figure out if those mods mean $$ to you. Personally I looked(and finally have come across) for a 99 GST unmodfied with low miles. That's just me though. If that car is exactly what you want, get it. Offer lower than what you will pay. See what happens. Don't lowball. If he's asking 7k, off 6200 or so.

Good luck.

looks good,
has he done a compression check, if not there could possibly be a rebuild in its near future, just be aware of that.

Very nice clean car with some nice wheels too (I think they might be pretty heavy, but they look awesome, I looked at the Se7ens a year ago or so and had my mind set on them for a while). I agree, you should have him get a compression test. Otherwise I would totally buy it if I didn't already have my '95 GSX; '95 is a great year for 2G's, primarily because of the EPROM ECU and they've reported less crankwalk (from what I've heard). Also, white's a very nice color, especially for DSM's with the black headlights.

Seems a _little_ high for the miles, but balanced by all the STUFF already done. If you don't plan on racing it, looks like a good deal- if you're gonna beat on it, be ready for the new engine.
From the pic, it looks gorgeous.

There is a guy that is selling me 2 Talon TSi's 1 92 and 1 91. Both 5 Speed. They both have perfect engines and trannies. the 92 has a new clutch and MBC. the 91 is stock but isnt running, he said the timing belt broke and he isnt sure of what else is wrong. they both have paint fade and all that good stuff. But he is selling me both for $4k. Is it worth it?

Could be? You expect us to go off of that little info then I say no! There area always deals out there, and if the engine needs rebuild, as its common for people to just say he "T-belt broke" when theres really a lot more wrong, and for one car that needs paint and has a junk motor, and the other that needs paint, runs and has a new clutch/mbc (worthless IMO as stock clutches blow and an MBC is worth $30) but runs...

I say that you should assume the worst when buying something like this... he must be selling both cause hes having problems right? Have you driven either? Heard either run? Know anythign else about them aside from it runs and has an mbc?

The guy originally was going to rebuild the head on the 91 and then sell it to me for $3000 and then his friend has the other one that is selling for $3000, he now says that he doesnt have time to rebuild the head and just wants to sell it for space and money, he said if i bought his friends for $3k he would throw his in for an extra $1k. I asked him, well if i buy the 91 for $1k how much and what needs to be fixed. He said the timing belt is broke and thats all he knows for sure, i wasnt sure if he was rebuilding the head just to make it better or that HAD to be done to fix the problem. I might just go ahead and get both, even if the 91 doesnt run, I still have it as a parts car, or can figure out how to fix it in time and do some drag racing or something with it. This is all the info i have so far on the cars. When i get home i can post pictures!

Ok heres the deal. I already have 2 non running 1G DSM's.

A 91 laser N/T Auto 2.0 No Motor No trans swapped them into the 90 Talon N/T. I am waiting on a wiring harness for right now, then it should run. Sooo

Tonight I came accross a 91 Eclipse N/T. 5speed 2.0 The body is really really rough with a smashed in a** end. Horrible grey primer job with alot of dents. Interior is great cloth/leather seats! The motor and trans have 143k. It has been sitting for about a year and the guy says it runs. It is a nice little parts car alone for the interior and motor thats about it. The guy says hes got $400 in it and is in need of money badly so I offered $300. Its up to you guys to let me know if I should buy this car and swap everything back into the 91 laser, thats way I'd have 2 running dsm's in the long run. So watcha guys this is this worth it? Let me know quick I have 2 days to act on it! thanks

I dont think the car has head or valve problems just a crappy rear ended crappy looking car. I did have a chance to get the timing belt cover off and the T belt was good and tight. I think I am gonna offer the guy $200 as is or $300 if I see it run. Sounds better to me I think I am gonna buy it! yay

what would you guys pay for a 95 gsx with around 80,000 miles. It has a new tranny and a decent amount of mods, pretty much every thing that just bolts on including a big 16g.

about 8 grand....I'm in search for 2g awd right now and thats about average from what I'm seeing. Wheres it at, if you don't buy it, give me some info on it. Thanks.

http://www.kbb.com (private party sale) (select 'rate it')

Then subtract the price of used parts that he replaced. (Price that he could have gotten for his old used parts.)

Then add the price of what you would pay for USED parts that he bolted on. (Since they are already used by this time.) Don't add the labor it has cost to bolt on all the parts.

Transmission - can't really add price of that, unless it's custom-built. (Double synchros... etc) Replacing transmission is like maintaining the car. Maintaining the value of the car. If it has no transmission, then you would subtract what it would cost to add a new or used trans.

Just my thoughts.
