Dude. First of all V8's are the way to go if your going to do all motor. If it's weight your worried about, my buddies 88 5.0 notch back weighs 2750 with him in it. He runs 12.9's. Second, what do you mean they went to hell after 92? They were the same form 87-93, then they changed the body to the really heavy style. Also, turbo is not something you shouldn't like. If you wanna not like something ---> NO2.

It will be much cheaper to start off with a turbo 4g63T than starting off with the n/t 2.0L or even the 1.8L. So get the turbo and start making it fast ;)
 
Hi guyz.. I wanted ur opinion on a 97 eclipse gsx for sale. I mean the car has it all.. 680cc injectors, t3/t4 turbo, apexi intercooler, blitz boz, and much more including shocks and springs for suspension system. But the thing is that the car is in low boost right now and need some problems to fix like rebuilding engine and some tuning! But it looks clean and nice and filled with gauges like Boost and egt and fuel + turbo timer! he is asking for 8500 dollars.. I dont know what to say and how much would it cost me to get it fixed!
 
What do you mean by low in boost? I assume he has a boost controller. Just turn it up. Why does it need an engine rebuild? Does it run at all? If not, I wouldn't buy it. I wouldn't buy it if it is going to need a rebuild either. Assuming you do not know how to rebuild the motor, you will spend a few thousand in the process.
 
That sounds like a steal to me, however you do not tell us how many miles it has. If it has below 90k take it, quickly.
 
All that go-fast jimcrackery was to go fast. Which it apparently no longer does. On top of using it up, he's seeking to get _you_ to pay for all the blinkey and spinning gee-gaws.

If you're ready to learn how to rebuild a DSM motor- which will probably include transmission work as well -then this could be the car for you.

Otherwise, keep looking. I'd go $4500 for this car.
 
Assume everything else is in good condition and tell me what you think this car is worth...

I bought a similar car for $1900. But it was manual with a couple less miles. Only problem i would see with yours is the A/T. Other than that you should be able to get $2000-$2500 is your game is strong.
 
Im buying an '88 Prelude SI 4WS for 160 bux tomorow to fix and sell. Its just body work, a leaky oil pan, and a new muffler that it needs. Anyways what do you think the thing is worth? I was thinking like $700 or something. By the way its a 5 spd and has a power sunroof.

In most cases your right. But Ive seen and driven some cars that are worth about $100 and are legal.

Im not refering to the prelude though.

C'mon anybody got any estimates?
 
If you get the body straight and fix the oil leaks and the car is in good condition otherwise you can get ~$1000 for it. In "good" condition the private party value at 150,000mi is $1755 which in reality should be good for ~ that grand I mentioned. In it's current described shape ~$500
 
After a few months of reading this board everyday and getting excited about the possibility of my first DSM, my financial situation after the start of school again did not look so good. Now, the black 95 GSX I have been watching has dropped in price to 8,000. It has about 100,000 miles, Killer T-28 Turbo, 550 Injectors, 255 Fuel Pump, S-AFC, 6-Disc Changer, 1-Gen Blow Off Valve, Upgraded Upper Intercooler Piping. Thanks guys and girls, I know you wont let me down

Deffinitly check the compression - I personally refuse to by a car without checking this.... Also run a Carfax - or other vehicle report... Make sure the body is straight (body lines even).... and If you have any second thoughts I would not hesitate taking it to a mechanic (one that you trust, and hopefully knows DSM's)... Hope that helps...
 
Yeah I will have to make sure and do that, the CARFAX isnt a big deal, its coming from one of my best friends so I know all about it.
 
I was in the same boat I just bought a 99' Gs with 30,000 miles on it. The previous owner installed Eibach springs on stock struts and the strut are blown. So I have to replace them and the Eibachs are going to be history to for a Set of pro Line Eibach's. The springs they installed actually raised the car up 2 inches. Now it is cutting the tires. Other then that This car is in very perfect condition. Always run a car through carfax. I ran mine, it has never been wrecked and everything checks out good. I paid 10 grand for mine. Now it is time for major upgrades Just wondering where to start first. The springs and shock are on the way.
 
you can find a better deal than that. Unless you really really like that specific car, I would look around some more. 8,000 is too high for a car with over 100k miles.
 
I would try and find a car with lower mileage. My car with 70K was 8,000. Granted it had no mods on it, but the body and interior were flawless, he was the original owner and he had every record. Unles you are hell-bent on getting that car, look somewhere else.

You said he was your friend, have you thought about asking him for a deal since you guys are buddies?
