^^^ He would know... he just bought one. :)

As mentioned, car value is very subjective, but if your looking for opinions... a 2ga GST with a blown tranny is worth about $2,000 in my book.

This guy is wanting about 7k for it. The car is in great shape cosmetically, is it worth it?

Sounds like a good deal, but on a modded car it's hard to tell if it is done right or halfassed. Unless you know your stuff about DSM's and turbos and such I'd stay away.

That seems like somebody else's dream car right there. A rebuild means he/she has had their fun.

If you know a good amount about DSMs and the mods he has done I say go for it.

There are alot of mods done and if you don't know how they were done, either mechanically or quality wise, I would say no.
BUT
If you have a good amount of money and a good reliable shop that knows DSMs to take the car to when something goes wrong I say go for it.

I'm typing this in order to get to this part. If you're inexperienced with DSMs mechanically and you would like to have a fast, reliable car, I would look for a stock ride even if you have to pay a little more. With the stock ride you can make your own dream come true.
BUT
If you know a considerable amount with cars or DSMs in general, I say go for it and have a nice, fast, sweet looking ride.

Good luck to you and with your choice.

Blast!

Im garaging my Trans AM for the winter, and having been looking for a cheap DSM or 4x4 to last me over the winter. I came accross this 92 Talon, and was wondering how much I could plan on spending to get it repaired. The guy told me he would take $300 cash which is great, but at the same time I dont wanna run into a money pit that doesnt run.

Heres his post....
Jiffy lube sucks! they didn't put the oil cap back on when they finnished the job- the seal was broken. i got it fixed a month ago but I guess they didn't do their job either- I would have taken it back to the shop but im too busy. the only thing bad about the car is the seal still needs to be replaced- I can give you the receipt- it still has the warranty to be re-placed. The car runs even though I put a quart of oil in it and now it smokes just burn it off! asking $400 or best offer. all new parts. dent in bumper-

Still waiting on pics, but does anyone know which seal he mite be talking about? And how much I can expect to pay to get it fixed?

It sounds like he is talking about the seal for the oil cap. If that is the case than all he made to do was go to a parts store and buy a new cap. Sounds like this guy doesn't know what he is talking about so you can either get a great deal or a really big screwing. I would be cautious because he may have run it out of oil. Unless you are good with cars and can look over the car well I would stay away from it.

Hello, newbie here, kinda torn about if i wanna save up for another car, but found out my brother is selling his soon, do you think a 98 spyder gst , manual, 108,000 miles for 6,000 is a wise buy? considering alternative cars? was plannin on savin up for a jeep wrangler(different class, i know) Is 108,000 too much mileage for this dsm, or does she have plenty of life left?

Its in immaculate condition , well maintained and already has some nice rims. I have a beater suv for the chicago winters, and wanted a fun car on the side, so im still not sure yet, i'd hate to see his car go to another owner, outside the family.:thumb:

Hey guys,

I went to see a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI with 125k miles. It was gold, 5 speed, AWD, body was in good shape, it ran well, and had the timing belt done at 118k miles. It pulled hard, I didn't see any smoke or leaks and I couldn't smell anything strange. The asking price is 2700, what is your opinion on this? Thanks

Have a compression check done and check the turbo for in and out shaft play. Take the intake off and reach inside the turbo and grap the wheel. Pull it back and forth and if it moves the turbo is bad. I would offer him 2k and go from there.

They're a little overpriced. A 98 GSX with 150K is definitely not worth $9000. I wouldn't recommend buying a DSM with that high of miles unless you know it was taken care of.

ROFL, That would be the day I buy a car from somewhere called CRUZIN. Cant even spell their own damn name right.

well i have been away for a while. but i think the dsm bug bit me again. i came across a 99 gst sypder for 10k the sweet thing is that it only has 35k original miles the owner kept in the garage. OMG no mods that i can see done and the car is so clean. no dents no dings no rust. the underbody do not have a bit of corrosion underneath. he traded it in to get a 350z that he just leaves in the garage.

now for the bad. its an auto. not that that is the worst thing in the world but i wish it would have been 5 speed. should i try to jump on this or should i move on to a wrx or something much newer? i would be trading in my contour svt for it and removing most of the mods that are done to the contour and selling them.

OK so Im sick of my GS and Im buying a GSX. I found 2 on autotrader but I want to know which one you think i should get. Probably niether will be my DD. Assume that both cars will be checked by a mechanic and are in good running condition. Here are the options:

1)Click This one looks like its in pretty bad shape plus its auto which I dont want. So I would have to do the manual swap but it is a lot cheaper. And im redoing everything anyways so crappy paint doesnt matter.

2)Click This one is salvage but i guess there is nothing wrong with it, I talked to the guy and he said it runs fine.

So those are the options, let me know which one you think I should buy. My goal is to do a complete rebuild of a stock GSX over the next few years. Im going to drop the 1G engine in and new shep or TRE tranny and Ill be driving it on weekends or possibly daily driving it if I feel like selling my current eclipse for parts money. So basically im asking if it would be better to buy a car in bad shape and do a manual swap or buy a salvage car for more money.

There are no better choice in socal than that? Both of them didn't look too good. 3.9k is low but I think 2g awd trans can be hard to find.

The red one is ok but a little high price for S-title if these where your only choices go for the 98 less miles and newer year but I would look around to try and find a cheaper one. Did you look on the classifieds on this site there is some good deals.

P.S- After you get your GSX you will never want to go back to the GS or drive it.
