Well I went scavenging today and found a nice 92 clipse...and low and behold it actually had stuff left in it!! first outta like 20 or so ive seen that wasnt picked to shit...anyway I grabbed some crap that I needed valve cover etc..and noticed that the cyl head looked really really clean..i mean there wasnt any discoloration or oil stains anywhere to be seen...I asked how much he wanted for it he told me 100...so now im tempted to pick it up to have as a backup...is it worth it?

You would probably have to take some photos for anyone to make any estimation for you. Usually, your guess would be as good as mine. It all depends on how well (or poorly) the previous owner(s) treated the car.

For a hundred bucks, and if you have the means of getting back to your place, then it sounds like a decent deal. But you may consider grabbing it first and asking questions later, because it may not be there when you get back.

Yea ive decided to grab it...tomorrow morning im goin...i doubt anyone will take it from 3pm this afternoon to tomorrow mornin..
everything looked like it had been bead blasted clean...the cams only had a minor rusting over them since the valve cover was left off...im gonna take it off and flip it before i buy it to make sure the valves are all there and in 1 piece...wonder what else i should look for...gonna take the TB too cause that looked real nice and had the vacuum ports intact not like my ghetto plugged one

i went out today and looked at a 98 gsx. this is what i saw

THE GOODS (From what i saw):
bone stock (except "carbon fiber" taillights),
black with black leather,
body in pretty good condition,
interior in pretty good condition
5 speed
91k

THE BADS (from what i saw):
7 bolt motor
front pass. fender doesnt line up with hod and headlight
no head unit
no cover for the inside of the hatch (to cover over the trunk area)
needs input shaft bearing
possible vaccuum leak
some minor body problems
91k

the guy thats selling it (dealer) said that it was driven by a girl and he got it from another dealer. its got 91k on the motor and he would give it to me for 6500$ as is (posted for 7599$ on his ad). he was told that it needs a new input shaft bearing and it shouldnt be driven until that is fixed, and it might have a vaccuum leak.

is it worth the $6500 or am i going to have to put over $500 into the thing in order for it to drive right. im not looking to really mod it, maybe just a BOV and exhaust... what do you think?
thanks

If you are buying this car from a dealer than they should fix all of that before they sell it to anyone other wise you might as well be buying a lemon not worth the 6500 i would tell him to take the price down quite a bit more 4500

Why is it bad that it has a 7 bolt motor in it WTF? If i were you, I would take the car to a trustworthy mechanic to do a complete inspection. It may cost like 50$, but at least you will be able to make a more informed decision.

7 bolts bad because of the whole crankwalk issue and from what i understand, 6 bolts are better motors.
i plan on taking the car to a mechanic to get it checked out.
he said if i dont take it or it doesnt sell or w/e before wednesday, hes gona get it fixed and then sell it for more (like $9000) because he knows he can get that much for it. so i figure get it for 6500, do the work (which is hopefully not that much) and then have a clean stock gsx. i dono, is that a bad idea? from my knowledge and what not (as well as an online apprasial from kbb.com), 6500 is kind of a steal for this car.

Crankwalk FTW! It's overrated. With 91k miles it would show signs of walking. I would offer him around $5000 for it.

crankwalk ftw? whats the ftw mean?
about how much do you estimate it will be for the input shaft beaing job?

The car is really in pretty decent shape. Its all stock has 160k on the clock runs really good. But the auto tranny is completely shot. Just wondering what you think this car is worth.

well what you consider decent shape is not going to be the same for everyone. So without pic's it really hard to tell. Well blown auto and fwd doesnt make a good combination to sell. I wouldnt pay more than a 1k-1500

was this a good deal? or just so so? just picked up a 95 gst, 160,000 miles, jumped time and needs all new exhaust valves. car is very clean inside and out otherwise. belonged to my buddies wife since new, the only thing i can see thats not stock is the k&n air filter. already took the head into the shop.never owened a turbo.been playing with Fiats for years. thanx this is my first post, hope i didnt screw it up.

Don't know if it was a good deal, no idea how much you paid for it.
Welcome to the world of DSMs and TELs!
You should have fun.

Are you just rebuilding the head? Did you check out the lower end well? The pistons weren't banged up from jumping timing?

Blast!
haha, I guess I should've checked www.urbandictionary.com first ::
