I picked up my 99 Eclipse GS last week for 2700, I should have offered the guy 2500 or 2000, I had to fix a bunch of oil leaks and am already in the process of changing the drive axles and some other things to get it into better running condition. As the other posters said it is about what condition it is in and if there are any mods already done to the car.

Yeah its all about condition of the car really. Mileage of coarse can play a factor but after dealing with these cars for awhile you'll start not careing about milage imo.

My 1g had 220k miles and still was in good condition.

As far as 2g's, i bought my car 3years ago basicly stock in good condition with 54k miles on it for 8g's, Now that i actually know about dsms i would never do that agian LOL.

ive been out of the dsm world for about two years, thanks to the marine corps. i found a car that is basically exactly what i want, minus the fact it has a sunroof and no power windows. But the car is basically perfect shape, 97k on it, black cherry, 10/10 everything. 2nd owner, all receipts, heres the mods

91 tsi awd 6/4
255awhp/290awtq on 91 octane
mbc(23 psi),
cai
buschur fmic

afpr with 750 inj
eprom ecu w/ stg 3 keydiver
palm dsmlogger
ported evo3 mani
evo3gt turbo
ported 02 housing
3" turbo back exhaust no cat
rre clutch/flywheel
sst clutch line
shep trans
fluidyne rad
eibach prokit

energy suspension sb bushings
metal master brake pads
sst brake lines
17x7 boost wheels on 225/45/17yok es100's
Custon upolstered front and rear seats, looks like the srt viper seats

Now, like i said ive been out of the game for awhile, his asking price was 6700, he said he would take 6k, but i was thinking more along the 5ish range. Seemed kinda high considering the completely stock block and head. I know how hard it is to find a prestine one, i would just like your thoughts.

Hi, im 16 years old and i'm in love with DSM. i do not own one, but their is a guy in town that has a 1991 eagle talon tsi awd. it has a rebuild automatic trans, and a new head. its all stock slight cosmetic damage. its still in great condtion with only 94000 miles. the bad is that cylinder #3 has a blown ring and is smokin and burning oil. I'd like to know ### it would be worth, and if it was worth fixing up. im still in high school, so budget is tight. I'd like so opinions and help please . thank you.

If you are on a budget I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a car you can use as a daily driver and can dedicate a good 6 months or so to rebuilding it and taking your time to do everything right. Go through the site and read the rules, look through the technical sections and upgrade paths. And if you have any questions, feel free to use the search feature. You will benefit from it greatly and get your answer a lot sooner. Everything you will want to know about what mods to do, rules and frequently asked questions and problems are in this one link. Depending on price it could be a good buy.

Banged up with a bad engine and an automatic. You should be able to pick it up for peanuts.

Just make sure its 100% what you want!! Dont start something your not going to enjoy when you finish it, or If you finish it.

I have a hard time thinking higher than $5500 for any 1g, even with all the goodies this car has, but that's just me. Given the fact that it's got an eBay 16g, which are not known to last very long (search here for more on the Chinese "GT" 16g's...mostly horror stories), I think as low as you can go the better. If it's super clean, and your dream car, bring him as much cash as you are willing to part with, and hope that he takes it. It's harder to let a stack of cash walk away than a check.

I wouldn't worry about the stock head and bottom end. The bottom end is good for 450+hp with a good tune, and as long as the valve stem seals aren't leaking, then the head should be fine, provided the chip has not raised the redline to unsafe levels. Make sure that the timing and balance shaft belts have been changed recently, or that will be on your short list of things to do.

Oh, and FYI, Forced Performance has genuine EvoIII 16g's on sale for $499...you might want to grab one if you pick up this car.

The Evo III GT's were actuall built by GT Concepts using parts made in Taiwan and sold by Turbochargers.com. The quality is much better than your run-of-the-mill eBay turbo- Forced Performance actually uses the same turbine and compressor housings on their popular DSM turbos as were used on the Evo III GT.

The Evo III GT's did have their share of turbine shaft breakage on the earlier models. I believe this has been corrected, but I'm not sure what date / serial number this began. You could contact Turbochargers.com with the turbo's serial number and they would probably be able to tell you the build date.

Am I right in seeing just 255whp at 23psi with the 16G? That must've been on a HORRIBLE tune.

If I was looking for a nice 1G, I'd pay $5k for that car. Pick it up, work out the bugs, and you should have a reliable, good-running DSM on your hands for a while.

23psi and 255whp do not compute. Have him check the compression before you buy. You might be able to drop that price quite a bit.

i would say no if your not mechanically inclined and want something to drive fairly quick. these cars are also very temperamental and very expensive to have a mechanic shop work on them. they are by no means a honda. you can take a knife to almost all vacuum hoses on a Honda and it will still get you home. pull the wrong one in the DSM and you may be walking :)

haha i agree 100 percent becasue its happened to me ROFL but anyway yea whats the price on the car and i would def learn how to drive stick the car is turbo and awd you are def going to want stick to get the most fun out of it:thumb:

I paid $7,500 for mine in December last year, I say if you wan't it get it, so long as you can afford it.

I'd rather pay top coin for a pristine car than pocket change for a piece of crap that some kid has beat the hell out of.

take into account that even if you spend the money to get all those things fixed, something else may go wrong and you will either end up putting more money into the car than you bargained for, or you may eventually give up and have to try and sell a car that isnt working right...

its also an automatic, which IMO is no where near as fun as driving a manual

I would just wait for something better to come along.. there have been a couple of people on this forum that have made threads not too long ago about 1g / 2g awd's in good condition that they had found for dirt cheap!!

wait for something better to come along, the last thing your going to want to remember about DSM's is how much of a pain in the ass they are because you rushed a decision

Good Luck

Taking into account you are still in high school and not financially inclined to start dealing with lots of problems just yet with a dsm, i would say wait off and get a running dsm later on, and work your way from there.

This is how i looked at it when i bought my Talon. Your only a teenager once so enjoy it while you still are. I mean your going to end up putting more money into it then you think you are. If and when it breaks just ride the bus to school and walk everywhere.

i paid 4500 about 5 years ago for a 91 black cherry, original owner 78k miles, i was very happy with that car.

Ive already asked him to do a compression test and hes gonna get back to me soon. Its gonna be a 5hour drive or what ever but i wont mind, i once drove 15 hours for a turbo mr2.

i was concerned about the 255 hp number on 23psi, i know hes on 91 octane but i didnt think it would make that big of a difference. he said it was a conservative tune but i dont see how on 23lbs.

it just had all the timing belt stuff done and maintence stuff about 1k ago, he hardly ever drives the car and said the car is as reliable as possible, but ill see when i get the compression numbers.
