if i was in your shoes i would really think hard about this. Those are parts he remembers puttin in what if he forgot some? its alot harder to fix a car that your not to sure what is done to it. especially trying to diagnose the problem and why it happened. i would get a stock DSM and do it your self so you know for sure what is done to it

so true buying an already modded car you dont know how it was driven what parts he really bought..especiall internals. Its a good setup for what he has. DONT IMPULSE BUY I waited a 2yrs to find the right talon for me..I found it from an old lady bone stock with 96 tsi awd with 42,000 miles for 6800. Buying something now becuase you think is good deal may cost you in the long run. If you do buy it read up on parts and keep up maintence. Good luck with your decision:thumb:

Like I said, slightly, as in, not much at all. That's 4 more bolts in a tricky position than you would otherwise have to do, so it is just a tiny bit, or slightly, harder.

Lets think about this for a second. Your saying that removing the crank pulley is harder than doing a timing belt. Bro.......... you have to remove the crank pulley so that you can remove the lower timing belt cover. The crank pulley should take no more than 1/2 hour to replace if you have all the correct tools for the job.

:ohdamn:yeah...I'm an idiot, this is what I get when I try to write a paper and post on tuners at the same time. I was thinking sprocket, not pulley, and you're absolutely correct. :thumb:

Whoa whoa whoa, is this Toga or TODA we're talking about here. I know TODA make parts for the Evo 7-bolts and such.
Beyond that, I say it should go for about 7-10K down there in the US, but beware as others have said. There could be little gremlins in wait for you, but then again it could be a deal. I say don't go for it as of yet, wait it out and trust me, something is bound to tickle your fancy in the right way.

Lesson of the Day: Impulse buying is like a cheap hooker. You may feel sexy as hell after, but in the end, you'll figure out you just got screwed, are left with something that'll make you sick to death, and you payed alot of cash for it all too.

I don't know. To me $6500 is way to much for a 2g GST. Granted it's in great shape. But my pull backs on it are that it's FWD and it's leather. Leather that old for the most part has cracks(unless garage kept). Not a big deal to an everyday person, I'm just picky.

Just get it it's clean and only 50+k...the rest of DSM's are 100.000miles +

I got my 95 GSX with small mods ( hard piping, exhaust, intake, turbo time ) with 90k on it for a steal in my mind !!! only thing wrong with it (not even a problem) is it was sanded down for paint so it was primer when i got it!

I traded a 2002 cbr600rr with 24k miles bone stock for it !!!

Made my day !!

Hello everyone!

So, I love the DSM, always have. I recently imported an Evo IX and was absolutely in love with it. Unfortunately, an elk decided that it was too nice of a car, and as such, it's totaled.

Now, thanks to the economy, I can't afford to bring in another.

On the plus side, one of the guys in our car crew is selling his DSM. It's a 92 Talon. Here's the specs:

1. JDM 6 bolt engine
2. Colt Cams
3. MLS Head gasket
4. ARP headbolts
5. 1000 CC injectors
6. AEM Fuel Rail
7. 3 inch GM MAF with Translator
8. Kinetics Cast Manifold
9. TIAL Wastegate 38mm Open Dump
10. Kinetics t3/T4 60 Trim turbo (.70A/R cold side/.63 hot side)
11. Kinetics Boost controller(SB)
12. Kinetics Drag 1G Front Mount
13. Kinetics piping.
14. K&N air Filter
15. Custom made 3" intake pipe with BOV recirc.
16. Synapse BOV
17. 2.5" to 3" exhaust
18. Centerforce dual friction clutch stage III
19. Brass shifter bushings
20. Mishimoto Aluminum Rad
21. Flex-lite Duel 12inch Fans
22. 4 Autometer Gauges (Boost, oil, water,volt)
23. AEM Wide Band
24. Reactive Racing seats
25. Reactive 4 point harness's
26. Sparco steering wheel
27. Gutted Rear Seats and Interior
28. 1990 ECU With Socket With DSMlink
29. 2 inch Eibach Lowering Springs
30. Front Strut Bar

I also have a AEM AFPR, Walbro 255 fuel pump, and a sheet metal intake which is all not installed. Car also needs a good tune.

He's asking $5800 for it. Also comes with a parts Laser (no powertrain). I know the guy, and he's a pretty good guy and a decent mechanic. The guy who owned it before him is also a mechanic.

I'm told it needs a better fuel pump (comes with one), a good tune and it has a mysterious oil leak.

I was just wondering what your opinions are on the car and the upgrades. How decent the parts are and if it's worth it.

Any opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

I'm told it needs a better fuel pump (comes with one), a good tune and it has a mysterious oil leak.

Upgrades seem pretty standard and of at least upper echelon quality. If they were done right then I do not foresee any problems.

However, the fact that you say he is a good mechanic and the care comes from a line of mechanics and the fact that it has a "mysterious" oil leak does not mix well with me. A good mechanic should be able to tell you EXACTLY where an oil leak is coming from. Makes me believe that he either A) knows where it is from and it is a pain in the rear fix or B) really is not that good of a mechanic and just mod happy. Both scenarios scare me for $5800. I would have an outside party address the issue (i.e. another mechanic you trust inspect the oil leak) and consider offering in the area of $5000 (not sure how comfortable the seller would be with hearing a number less than that)

These are just my opinions and I am very skeptical when purchasing cars. Hope some of this helps!

+1. A good mechanic is supposed to do a good job and keep their cars in good working order. He must have been lousy if he knows about the leak and doesn't want to tell you because it might be a p.i.t.a. to fix. The mods are all nice, but no way i will every pay more than 5k for a 12+ year old car with no guarantee and a mysterious oil leak. I rather buy a nstock or near-stock dsm and start from scratch, or have another honest mechanic check out the problem and find out where the oil leak is coming from and how much it will cost to fix. Might even be just as little as cam seals went bad but i would still get a mechanic to double check everything.

Seeing that the car has a substantial amount of mods, I'm 100% sure they have ran the dog shit outa it too!

I'd be careful with that one!

Yeah, I have the same fears and concerns. I know the engine itself. It's been through a few different cars. The upgrades have been done well, but the oil leak hasn't been looked at yet. I'm bringing another mechanic with me tomorrow to look at the car. He owns an Evo 1 and is very knowledgeable about the 4G.

Also, I am confident that the car hasn't been bagged. I've known both the drivers and neither one drives their cars hard. They're both older and more mature than most of the boy ricers in this town. The only thing I'm unsure of is how hard it was driven in Japan, but all in all it seems in pretty good shape.

As for the price, $5800 is quite a bit for a 1st gen DSM, but that is Canadian (4600US) and cars are more expensive up here. The next closest car for sale right now is a stock 1992 Subaru WRX for $8000, which doesn't even compare performance wise.

It's funner to buy one stock and build it up to your liking. You also grow closer to it, which is important because DSM's aren't the easiest to make "friends" with. You give it everything you got, and once in a while, whenever it feels like it, it'll return the favor. That's why I think getting one stock is better, you get closer and the car seems more yours than somebody else's.

The above poster may be correct about it being more fun to buy a stock one and mod it yourself but think about the financial standpoint. I know my car has way more money into the mods than I will ever get out of it if I was to sell it. If I was to ever part ways with it whomever I sold it to would be getting all those parts for a steal of a price. Say you buy the car for what he is asking for it and the motor does go out soon. You can build the motor the way you want for a reasonable price or swap for another jdm. You still have all the other mods that are working properly. Now on the other hand you buy one bone stock and dump alot of money into it modding it and the motor still goes out. You will still have to build another motor or swap for a different one.

I guess what I am saying is let someone else dump alot of money into the car and then buy it off them at a fraction of the price they have invested into it. I know that is what I will do when I decide to get a evo. Either way best of luck to you with what ever you decide and I hope it all works out for you.

I'm going to look at a '92 Laser tomorrow that has been extensively modified. I will be using it for a DD so I need something pretty reliable. I just want to see what you guys think about it. Thanks a lot!
