This car originally belonged to me from 2003-2008. I purchased it from my second cousin’s boyfriend’s mother, who was the original owner. It had next to no miles on it and she didn’t want much for the car. I already had my first red 1g but this car was for just tooling around in as that car was mainly for track/street things. I just wanted a stock-ish DSM.
I loooooooved the tan interior. It was immaculate as the previous owner never drove it. Truly, the car, when I bought it, was in perfect condition
Here’s a photo from 2005, I think it was.
After we broke up, part of the condition for him to stop being a stalker was that I’d give him the car. It was a hard loss but worth it. I lost track of it over the years but had heard he sold it from a mutual friend. Thankfully, someone tore off the purple-ish tint that was on there. I hated it so much,
That person ended up selling it to my friend David.
I remember seeing photos of it on Facebook and had messaged him about where he got it from, what he knew about it, etc. We had several conversations over the years and yup, it was confirmed that it was my old car. He was out of his mind when he heard I gave it away to keep someone away. He tried so many times to just give the car back to me or “sell it cheap” so I would “feel better.” But it made me feel good knowing how much he loved and cherished it so that’s all that mattered.
He unexpectedly passed away last year and it was really hard. His family and I had several conversations about what to do with the cars - he has three sisters and none of them were automotive “enthusiasts.”
His family wants me to have both of his cars (the talon and a 4g63 swapped colt) in remembrance of him. And it’s been an honor to have them in our possession.
We changed a few things - he had a 50 trim and some oddball cams on it that made the car run not so well. When under power it didn’t pull hard at all. We thought maybe the turbo was having issues. We switched it out to the HX35 Matt had lying around with the original MrPeepers twin scroll manifold.
We took it to the track in October where it did not do well - so we thought, must be the cams. We changed them out to the HKS 272s to match Matt’s original setup and the car runs so strong and is exactly as he remembered. So, nope, not the turbo. The cams just didn’t match either setup and was hindering it a bit.
Evelyn, my youngest daughter, has completely fallen in love with the car and has claimed it for her own when she turns 16. We agreed but she has to do all the general maintenance to it and so far, she has helped with it all!
There were some tears in the seats from use over the years so at last year’s shootout, our friends at Performance Partout brought the most perfect tan leather seats to replace the torn ones. The car is still in immaculate condition and now the interior matches!
Can’t wait to take it back to the track and really test it out but so far, we’ve just been enjoying how perfectly it shifts and remembering him with every drive we take.
