Hey guys, I've been researching this topic on tuners the past week or so, and I've gotten some good information, but there are still a few gray areas and I was hoping that you guys could help me clear some things up. I'm putting a 14b into my 2g and there's no way I'm going to pay 100 plus dollars for an install kit. I already have a stainless braided oil feed line, 14b water lines, gaskets, copper washers, etc.

My real question is dealing with the j-pipe. I have the stock 1g j-pipe and have used these with the stock piping and made it work quite well. Just wondering if someone could clarify the best way to go about doing this. I want this to look clean, so I'm planning to extend the pipe using some intercooler straight piping I have laying around. Does anyone have any pics of the modified ic pipe? I haven't found a pic so far in any threads, so I think it would help future tuners out immensely. I'll also make sure to snap some pics with my finished product.

Thanks a lot!
dan

you use the stock 1g jpipe and you use your stock lower ic pipe and turn it upside down or something and it should go right to the smic i believe.

there is a writeup by cucumber on exactly what you watn to do. its in the tech section.

or go on ebay and buy the jpipe and lower pipe for like <$50 shipped.

I tried this but it didn't work whatsoever. Unless he had an aftermarket LICP, the stock LICP is not long enough to reach down to the SMIC. I ended up buying a 2" diameter piece of pipe and getting it bent at a muffler shop and cutting up the stock LICP to use as couplers.

Edit: This was done with a 1g j-pipe.

I'm sure there are pics out there....I have none because I rarely work on 2G's; and the ones I do work on aren't using the stock sidemount.

The right way to go would be to use one of those eBay j-pipes that are $30, although they're only 2" so your 2G lower intercooler hose won't fit tightly enough to seal without a boost leak. The RRE j-pipe is 2-1/4" for this reason.

I've heard of guys extending the stock 2G lower intercooler hose about 10" using a piece of straight 2-1/4" metal exhaust pipe from any auto parts store, but that doesn't explain how you're clamping a 2-1/4" hose on the 1-7/8" 1G j-pipe. You could probably rig up something using an exhaust adapter if you have access to a welder....say, weld a 1-7/8" to 2-1/4" exhaust adapter to the end of the 1G j-pipe to increase the size, allowing you to securely clamp the extended 2G lower intercooler hose to the 1G j-pipe.

Be creative, and be sure to post back with what you come up with!

Rubbish, my stock licp worked just fine....you had to try and stretch it a bit and it was a snug fit but it worked great. It can be done, im sorry i dont have pictures of it, i installed it and then put on the front mount shortly after...

It didnt work for me either, it just simply wasn't long enough to make it to the j pipe. I got some exhaust tubing and rigged it together and it worked fine

Yeah there's no way the stock LICP would have been long enough, even if it just went on a diagonal down to the SMIC instead of in an "L" shape. As for fitment onto a 1g j-pipe, it has that ridge on it and it holds pretty good. I've had every other coupler on my LICP blow off except for that one, and it's just got one of those cheap clamps on it.

I have a bunch of aluminum bends and straight pipes, so I'm sure I could figure something out a way to extend it enough to reach the j-pipe. However, like a few people mentioned, it doesn't really explain how you make the licp fit onto the 1g j-pipe, which is clearly much smaller in diameter.

If I can't figure this out then I will end up buying a j-pipe off of ebay, but even then I am skeptical about how well it will work without some kind of modification.

I hacked off a piece of the stock LICP and used that as a coupler to the LICP I made out of 2" tubing.

DONT SAY ITS IMPOSSIBLE! It is, i really wish i took pictures...but my buddy and me got mine to fit, he was stunned. I flipped it around the other way and it fit just about perfect, like i said i had to kinda stretch it a tad

So you used the stock licp with not modifications other than flipping it around? I'm sure I could make this work. How did you get that licp to 1g j-pipe to clamp down since the licp is a much larger diameter than the j-pipe?

Well, I finally got my install done, and everything went really smoothly.

I ended up using:
-Stock 1g oil return line
-Stainless braided oil feed line that I had laying around
-No water lines hooked up, it simplified the install and I plan on turbo timing it religiously

BUT, to get the the important part. For my new "custom" lower intercooler pipe, I ended up using a 1g j-pipe, 2g licp, and 1g uicp. I shortened the longest part of the the 2g pipe and used the 45 degree bend from a 1g uicp. From there, I just went to NAPA and found a
1 1/7" piece of straight pipe. You can stretch the 1g 45 degree bend and clamp down the 2g licp and you will have a perfectly working 14b/16g licp for less than $5!

I can get some pics if you would like..

Interesting way to do it. Why are you not hooking up the water lines? You just need to lengthen one of the hoses and bend the lines on the turbo and they can both be hooked up in under five minutes,
