14b/16g install question

I have had a 14b sittin in my garage waiting to be installed for quite some time now. I never got around to installing it because i didn't want to pay the rediculous prices for the install kits and such.

However, I was looking on E-bay and i found some guys selling J-pipes off of 1st gens, would this work for installing the 14b on a 2g? I was looking at the pics and the bend doesnt seem quite as severe. Would i need to get a 1G LICP if i used this peice or can i keep my 2G LICP?

I also saw an auction for oil feed/return and coolant lines on ebay from a 1g. If i used the head for an oil source instead of the filter, would these lines work?

I'm in no way attempting to cut corners on the install, just looking for a more economical 'install kit'.

Check the classifieds...there were a few aftermarket J-Pipes for like $40.

As for the oil lines, I would get a stainless feed line and have it fed from the filter housing. You can use your 2g oil return and water lines...all you hafta do is bend them a bit. Once you bolt on the 14g you'll see exactly what you have to do with your water lines and oil return.

Oh, and congrats for not being one who drops 200-300 on a 'install kit' for the 14b/16g turbos.

Well the main reason i was asking about those j-pipes, was on ebay they are goin for under $5, plus only like $5 or $10 for shipping.

I just installed a 14b on my 2g not three weeks ago For the J-pipe, I just bought a stock 1g for like $20 on the classifieds. Yes, the stock 1g J-pipe will work. All you really have to do is flip your stock 2g LICP over and stretch it a wee bit to get it on there. You may have some issues with the LICP hitting the radiator fan shroud, but a dremel and 5 minutes fixes that problem.

As for the oil feed, I just bought a new SS feed line from SBR ($55). Also, make sure to pick up new gaskets for everything. There is your "install kit"!

If you are using a SMIC, then the 1G j-pipe will work fine. (I just PM'ed you)

If you have a side-to-side FMIC (like SBR's), then you will need a down-firing style j-pipe like this one.....

One more thing, Could I just use a regular plain ol braided stainless line for the oil feed? GuitarXgeek said he got one from SBR for $55, but if i could just go to Napa and grab a line and banjo fitting, that would probably be a lot cheaper? I'm not tryin to cheap outta this install, i just don't have a whole lot of money to be throwin around for this car right now.

Yes, but the banjo's are very hard to find, and when you do, they are not cheap. I built myy own kit for less than $20.....

don't forget to get a banjo bolt for the oil line also...i got mine from Mitsu for like $11
good luck with the install, you'll be happy with the 14b. I recently ran a 13.7 @103 with just a ported 14b, fuel pump, clutch, and a MBC @20 on 110 octane. Compared to a 14.7 with the same mods but with a T25.
