No Shane...Dave has some parts that he offered up to me for a great deal. That's what Justin was saying. I'm just kind of debating about what I want to do. Will debate a little longer. Since it's apart, I would love to build it. Going to sit on it just a bit and get some other stuff going (diet for the car). The biggest thing I am waiting on is to see if I can get some non car related things sold, then I'll definitely drop the money on the build.

Say what, Dave wants to play with the 14b again?

Would be sweet if he did. That would increase the number of running 14b cars competitively. But that wouldn't bump anyone off the current list.

Maybe if the aluminum rod methanol car ever gets finished we will have a runner :p

Take your time and make sure you pick what works best for you. You already know either choice engine wise will get you deep in the 11s.

Ahhh I see, misread that. If I was down and didn't have a free pr very cheap option of a stock shortblock I'd build a forged motor. Obviously the stock 7.8:1 compression 6 bolt is plenty to go low 11's and/or 10's but there is no doubt that a bump in compression will help plus you can lean on the tune harder. Lighter internal components doesn't hurt anything either where possible.

Here's one of your runs Shane. I will get more up as I get them uploaded.

I agree with you Shane. Making things lighter so it can rev quicker would definitely be a big benefit, but that's when parts start getting pretty expensive.

Nice video Matt. Glad there is a really good video of his 11.14 @ 118!!

Very nice video Matt, thanks for sharing! I like that angle. That was the "important" run ha ha!

I agree Brandon, things start getting expensive with motor builds really quick! I mean if you're going to build an awesome bottom end you need the head to match too right? Downward spiral effect! As said if you can get a cheap/free stock bottom end go with it, otherwise build it right build it once. I learned the hard way on that.

Nice vid! Solid 1-2 Shane.

So, the end of season question:

Will there be a second 10 second 14b car in 2013?

That's my goal for the year. The airs cooling and now it's time to put in some work. Finally get an alignment done next thurs. I'm working out a schedule now to head over the pass to Sacramento.

Should it happen? For sure! Will it? Still up in the air.

I'm going to give it a go as soon as I can. Couple changes to the car that might help. Cooler air and even less elevation should also help (laughing at myself here). But that's a lot of "should" and "might". :) I do know it'll be fun!

Well, good luck guys, maybe 2 more in the 10's? That would be pretty sick. If each of you grabbed one more tenth that would be a great end of season accomplishment....

I am hoping I can get my car together in the next few weeks and make a few more runs at it this year. Hopefully I can knock the English crew off the top 10 it'd I can get the car going!

Moved the Top Ten List up so I can find it easier later, also added my latest time. This list is in need of some movement! Most importantly to me is knocking the English time off the bottom since other then trusting him there is no timeslip or evidence to back it up. Someone new needs to hit the top ten! I also added the year each time was ran.

Steve's close and we have the up and coming Brandon. Hopefully both will make the 11 sec 14b club soon.

I have offered Brandon a good set of stock pistons and rods. Plus Dave w is gonna hook it up on some forged stuff. Now ya just gotta get it goin.

I'll definitely be back out this season, I've just been (im)patiently waiting for the weather to cool down. I'm shooting for the next couple of weeks. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve since the last time out, 11s shouldn't be a problem if I can get a clean pass, hopefully it'll be enough to get onto the top 10 list.

Seeing the progress Shane's made this season really makes me wish I'd stuck with one of my Lasers for the 14b setup. My current car is just too heavy to be a contender for the top of the pack. I do have a friend selling a '92 Laser AWD pretty cheap..... :hmm:

Great to hear! I don't think 11's will be a problem for ya. And hey mine is a Talon still ha ha! Just happens to have a race weight of 2430 lbs! OMG

That's cause the weight with and without the driver doesn't change much :p

Well I hope you at least get 11s Steve. And Brandon gets it running and back to the track at least one more time.

Both Steve and Brandon need to get on the list, they've been around since near the beginning of this thread! :thumb:

And I'm no lightweight, I could honestly stand to lose another 10 lbs :shhh:

I didn't mean they're lighter just because they're Lasers. I was building a '92 AWD Laser awhile back that I never finished, would've been gutted. Then more recently I had a '90 FWD Laser, which was also gutted. I ended up getting rid of that when my friend parted his car out and I bought his shell because I didn't want to see the car go to someone else. It's too clean of a car to gut and I enjoy street driving it. It's also got a mild steel cage that doesn't help. Once I get what I want out of this setup, I'll be moving up to an HTA68 or 76. At some point, I'll definitely be back with a lighter car though.

I've been dabbling with the 14b on and off since long before this thread. My old car ran 12.12 @ 112 back in '05 (pretty sure that was top 10 in those days) ;)

Pulled another 80lb from the car today...still no cutting or spot weld removal. All 'metal' still in tact. But that won't be for much longer. Probably not even another day! :D

They are a bit over due.

You couldn't be like some of us pushing around the 200+ marker.

How quick do you guys think it's realistically possible to get a full weight 1G with a 4 point cage and street tires to go down the track?

I want to put the 14b back on my car after i sort out some shifting issues, as there is no point in doing it until than, but it probably won't even happen this season. :-/

Just want to know what is a realistic goal to have.

You can still cut some decent 60' times since you are awd, but realistically, with that much weight, I would estimate low 13s or high 12s depending on your driving ability, mods and how hard you push the turbo.

Too many variables beyond just the weight and who knows what full weight really means anymore anyways. But, mid to low 12's is entirely possible. Look at Dave (pneumo), his car was lightened but not nearly to the extreme and it was good for mid 11's.

Well, when I ran in May I was 197ish - Now i'm about 185 so close enough to that 200 marker! Takes alot longer to drop weight on yourself then on the car!

I would've guessed less. Must mean your a lot taller than 5'9" and proportion it differently. I know myself need to lose a few lbs as well. Last time I weighed with car was 203. Shouldve seen my stack of flywheels I used when I was weighing my car with driver to set the suspension. ROFL

So Ive been racking my brain. Elevation or not has not been affecting me hitting the 10.87 as much as I thought. I know itll help gain some hp to pass up the record eventually. The car is just flat out missing something.

Ive had equal 60' 1.62
Less weight
Better power to weight ratio (higher mph)
More top end power (higher gain from 1/8 to 1/4. 25mph gain to 22.35)
Pretty identical chassis setup and gearing (awd trans 26x10" tires)

Trying to go off Joes setup and better it, there is something that's completely missing from the equation. He obviously has a way better 1/8 than I do. So something isn't right.

Now I got to looking up my cam numbers for the crowers and I have the 416s. Those are the 264/272 combo cams. Joe had the 413s which are the 272/272 cams. I don't know how much of a difference that makes or having them degreed instead of installed straight up as mine are now. I know the powerband shifts but enough to cover a few tenths?

Another thing I know fact on is that when I installed the 16G and ran I was able to hook really good 60' times with only first gear burnouts and 6psi of air. Same launch limit. But on the 14b 6psi and second gear burnouts car wont hook. That's two different time stuck in the 1.7s on the 14b with the bigger tires.

I hope to have the cams degreed and a number to play with the next time out. I need to figure out this magic missing part to get this car into the 10s.
