tcase off a 7bolt tranny fit on a 6 bolt tranny?

I just had a question, and no one seems to know the answer...will a tcase that cam off a 7bolt tranny fit on a 6 bolt tranny or does it just depend on how many spines there are on it?(tcase)

I've got my 97 m/t one on my 91 m/t. The 1990 one is the 22 spline. All the others are 23. I'm pretty sure you have to use th m/t with a m/t and an a/t with a a/t.
