I took out my throttle body shaft seals since they were leaking and the inside of each of the little metal rings got mashed up a bit, but are the still reusable? The outer portion of both rings are still fine and not bent or broken at all.

Here, read through these first (can be found on VFAQ):

Another way is to use a Permatex RTV product and apply a thin layer on the outer half of each side of the gaskets. Re-install everything and wait at least a few hours before starting the engine back up. Here are two links for products that can help you (can be found at most NAPA stores and the like). They will serve you well:

Thanks man, its just going to be temporary until I can order the proper seals, I just really need to get the car in running condition.

Bah, not going to work. The seals get pushed put since the inner rings are messed up. I'm either going to try and order some seals asap from a local store or get a replacement tb at m&s recycling until I can get seals to fix this one.

Do NOT use RTV on the seals.

If the seal is crushed I would not try to re-use them either.................the shaft could bind up on you and that can be a bad thing, especially if it got "bound" open.

I've not been able to find the seals at the dealer, they always wanted me to buy the whole throttle body, so I just never went back. I've just ordered the seals and gaskets from MACH V myself (as mentioned above) and just keep a spare set at the house in case.

Be safe and get the new seals before you drive it.

FORMONTOYA-

Do you still have the package from MachV for the shaft seals? Mine had a Mitsu Part number on the shaft seal package. I will take a look myself tonight if I remember.

I'm actually going to get the chicago rawhide seals from an industrial supply shop, but depending on how long it'll take to get them I'm just gonna get a replacement tb from the recycling place.

Just a note....MACH V was smart enough to remove any mention of the Mitsubishi part number off my order, just 3 separate generic bags................

Jim, I hope I didn't mislead anyone with my original post above. I thought he had a leak at the TB gaskets. However, those also have small rubber seals on them. Are you saying that one should not use RTV on the TB elbow-to-TB gasket or on the TB-to-intake manifold? Please explain.

I was not confused, I was just letting others know not to use RTV on the shaft seals (in case someone did get confused).

While I don't use RTV on the TB gaskets (either side), the gasket would be the only place I would consider using RTV when it comes to the TB. If I did use it I would also not get too sloppy with the application in this area.

Of course. The "squish factor" needs to be taken into account when using RTV sealant on most gaskets.
