Since I am going to get some extra cash I did not expect to get I feel like its time to replace that weak t25 that makes my car feel like a stock volvo with something that actually puts me in my seat. I would like to get something I wont have to replace later down the line with something bigger but at the same time not going too big that I need an all forged motor with a fully built drivetrain just to daily drive it not doing any hard launches. I am considering the journal bearing PTE 5857 but from what I have seen its pretty new and I can't find any dsm people with it yet. I have seen people on the evo boards with it and stock internals and drivetrains (except good clutch) making around 500whp on e85 at between 27-31psi. I plan on running e85 and keeping boost reasonable around 24-27psi. Below is what I plan to do and was interested in any ideas or suggestions. I planned on keeping the stock cams at first and seeing what kind of power I get and seeing if I am satisfied before putting in cams. My power goals and expectations would be around 425whp.

Current Mods:
Mods: Bolt-on
1g BOV, Perrin MBC, K&N drop in filter, custom 3" exhaust, Megan downpipe, Prothane motor mounts. walbro 255
Mods: Engine Management
dsmlink v3 lite (speed density parts in hand not installed yet), Defi boost gauge, AEM AFR gauge

Planned Mods:
PTE 5857 turbo journal bearing internal gate
ETS FMIC
Custom Southbend SS-X single plate clutch
FIC 1350cc bluemax injectors
ARP L19 Headstuds put in using one at a time trick without removing head so factory headgasket
ARP rod bolts
I plan on getting tuned by RRE using dsmlink v3 lite speed density

Just a big 16g will get you close to 425 hp. Its a cheap way and easily to resell. I'd consider one of them honestly. Good spool etc. And if 425 is all you want you'll be right at the high end of a well ported b16g range.

A 16g could get you to that power level but it will be running all it can do at high boost. I'm not that much of a fan of PTE turbos but that is a personal preference.
My first option to you would be this:Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP 68HTA Turbocharger for DSM
Its FP's new 18g that outflows the commom 16 and 18g wheels. It states 47 lbs min in the description. It bolts on just like a 16 to your existing manifold and o2 housing.
Second option, pick up say something like an 8 blade Hx-35 and put it in the dsm bolt on housing. You can probably find the turbo for pretty cheap then shell out a couple hundred more for the bullseye bolt on housing.

I'm gonna say holset it cheap. Or I got a 50trim o2housing with a screamer pipe and ported evo 3 manifold. And all the lines and gaskets for a direct Bolt on for 800 with the o2 sensor. FYI to anyone.

I really am torn between the evo 3 16g and going with the 5857. The 5857 is not very expensive compared to the 16g. I can get a 5857 for 810 shipped which is cheaper than the 68hta and supposed to make more power and the evo 16g will save me 250 bucks but will not leave me much room to build around in the years to come as I plan to own this car for awhile and eventually might decide to do a full build on it when I want more power. That was my thinking on the 5857 it is supposed to make 85-90% of the power of a 6262 while spooling around 500 rpm sooner.

if you're gonna mess around changing you turbo setup you might as well just get an hx-35. There cheap and you'll have a lot of extra power potential left over. I made the move from a t25 to a 16g well i like it I'm already at the max. For less 700 bucks you could get everything you need to run the holset. I would go for that and be responsible with it no 35 psi without the supporting mods.

I am not a fan of blowing money on overpriced turbos. You say you want 425hp, so don't get a turbo that maxes out at 400hp. The small 16g & big 16g seem extremely pointless to me. The E316G costs about $40 more than the small and $20 more than the Big, so why not upgrade to the best one you can buy. The E316G is one of the best street turbo's, but if you are looking to get 425hp out of it, good luck. It has been done, but it requires an extensive supporting mods list, and very fine tuning. As far as the FP 68HTA it seems like a great waste of money. I mean you get a few more lbs/min vs. the E316G, but are a few lbs worth an extra $350? There are a lot better turbo's to be had for cheaper.

All of these turbos can be found relatively cheap.
My Recommendations in order:
(1) Holset HX35 w/ BEP .55ar Mitsubishi Flange ($500) >450
(2) 20G ($400) ~ 400-450
(3) E316G ($300) ~ 350-400

To get that out of a MHI 16g your gonna need some aggressive cams, a built head, run a decent amount of timing, e85.

Or a stroker.

Its doable on a 16g. But... your gonna pushing the 16 fairly close to its maximum.
