Sup guys I'm relatively new to the DSM scene I've had a Honda all my life and still do but I wanted to try something different so I got a 2nd gen Talon TSI. I bought it from the previous owner with already the tapping noise she said it was the lifters so I went ahead and replaced them well after that the tapping noise was still there. The noise isn't loud just a tapping sound that gets annoying after hearing it so much. Any help on eliminating it is appreciated, thanks!

Btw I did search and all had to do with the lifters not tapping noise after replacing the lifters :)

I hope it isn't a knock either I'll try to see what solutions I can come up with.

One other thing you might check is to see if the cams are walking (to much thrust bearing clearance) They are allowed .004/.008" if it is more than that it might make a audelble thump.

Knock is pretty distinct from tapping. You'll recognize it as sounding like a hammer is smacking the block.

You said you replaced the lifters, but did you replace them with revised 3G lifters that have a larger passage for oil?

I have heard that using Lucas Oil Stabilizer will cause a noticeable reduction in lifter tick. I haven't tried it though since I only hear mine when the hood is open and I'm pretty used to hearing it having driven a Fiero for years before this one. Talk about a tick in the head, drive one of those. There's a reason they've moving away from pushrods. ROFL

This is what I was being told, do I just tighten it more?

Yes I know for sure it isn't a knock because that happened with a Mustang I had and the higher I revved it the louder the knocking but that isn't the situation with the talon. Also Idk if they were 3g lifters the previous owner gave them to me when I bought the car.
Dsm are a little different than hondas. Did you bleed the lifters the right way?
Bleed them? I completely replaced them with brand new ones, was I supposed to bleed the new ones?

If it is the cam/s are walking there is not much you can do other than replace them but on the bright side it normaly is just a annoince more than any thing else.

Well if it's nothing to worry about then it's a good thing my turbo spooling up is louder than the tapping anyway! :thumb:

did you change your oil/filter when you replaced the lifters? were they new lifters that you put in?

From my experiance with Dsm s thay all have a tiny lifter tap I was under the empression if thay didn't it was bad LOL I have owned 9 Dsm s and that is normal I think LOL but just my opinion
