Talon surges in rpm when cold whats wrong?

I've noticed for awhile now that my 93 TSI AWD (auto) talon surges (it sort of goes up in down in rpm) when its cold. Onces its at high way speeds it fine but if i go to turn a corner and the car stays in over drive (like is usually seems to do) it will surge when trying to get back up to speed.

What is the problem>?

First and foremost check your thermostat. I had the same problem when i had my 1st gen talon.
Turned out the t-stat was split in 2 pieces. Check and make sure yours is fine or if it needs replaced.
Then do a boost leak test.
Last but not least make sure all your vac lines are connected.
Report back and let me know how it goes.

after re-reading the post it seems like there may be two issues going on. idle surge and a boost leak or possible spark problem.

Will be checking the thermostat real soon.

Just wanted to make something clear. At idle its runs fine. its only when speeding up. the problem has got worse the past few weeks. When getting on it (to pass a car) i can feel like the car almost trying to cut out and doesn't have constant power. i can feel it having power then losing it. its subtle but it is there. Ill be checking spark also. Almost feels like it is flooding itself. Could it be the EGT sensor?
