whats wrong?

so i found a good deal on a tsi and everything is in pretty good shape except the car cuts out when the RPM's hit 4500. The whole car kind of pops and lurches you forward when this happends. what is causing this? should i walk away from buying this car??? help is much appreciated.

That is called fuel cut. It happens when the ecu sees too much air. Like if there is a boost leak, or the boost is turned up too high. It can be fixed just do a search on how to do a boost leak test. very simple

When looking into buying a car, check the following things:

1. Do a compression test (there should never be more than a 16 PSI differenece between each postion).
2. Make sure there is oil pressure.
3. Do a boost leak test.
4. Make sure timing belt is in good shape.
5. Just do an overall check on all engine, check for receipts if possbible. (make sure tires are good, little stuff like that)
