i have a 92 talon tsi awd. i just got the car running for the first time since i bought it. it will only start if i give it a little bit of gas, than, once it does start, its running real rough, but consistant, as if it were only going on 2 or 3 cylinders. if i hit the gas it will bog, than rev up to around 4k rpms. i just put new spark plugs and wires on it and it is getting spark to all 4. all of the new plugs are correctly gapped. the pcv valve was taken out of the valve cover when i bought the car but it came with what looks to be a new one. i pulled the hose off the pcv valve and blocked it with my finger for 15 seconds and it shot out a puff of smoke, with some pretty high pressure, the car is completely stock, so its nothing that i did. i just put a new timing kit on the car, but the old belt wasnt even broken, so there are no valves bent. if anyone can help me out, i would be very appreciative.

thanks

I had a similar problem with my plug wires. One of my plug wires was arcing onto my fuel pressure regulator. What happened was that my reulator cut through just enough of the insulator to let it arc across. The best way to describe the the sound of the car was that it sound like a WRX (real loapy). That and I couldnt accelerate past around four grand either.

Hope this helps...

haha yea mine definately sounds like a WRX. the coil pack and ignition module must be good because the car runs but just wont go over 4,000 rpms and is real slow getting there, i havent tried driving it this way but im guessing it would barely move. how did u fix the problem with yours, Plague? what you described sounds exactly like mine.

thanks

All I did was grab a new set of wires (good old shucks brand) and routed the one the was cut into over the regulator. I have a buschur fuel press regulator and the bottom of the regulator is sharp. The forward most wire off of the coil I routed over instead of under.

If this is your prolem, you should be able to hear and see it arcing. Dont try to move and feel for it too much because you might get shocked and that really doesnt feel good. It got me and made me jump. If you have some areas were your wires are really close to some hard or sharp edges look and listen there with the motor running.

nah i wish it was as easy as being only the plug wires, it did it with the old set and even with the new set i put on. the car is so weird because if i hold it at 1500-2000 rpms, and pull any one single plug wire off, it will continue running shitty and sounding like a WRX. which leads me to believe that it isnt spark related. maybe if i can get my hands on a compression tester later ill check that out. is there any special procedure for checking compression? ive never done it before, one more thing that seems out of the ordinary is that the car doesnt make the typical DSM sound when turning over, as if it didnt have compression on every cylinder or something, would a blown headgasket cause it to have a miss? im pretty sure its nothing electronic related, which is a good thing. when i put the new timing belt on the car, i made sure everything was 100 percent correct. is there anything on these cars that is usually overlooked when doing timing jobs, like i mean does the motor have to be on compression stroke when u are finding TDC?

thanks

anyone else have any ideas what could be wrong? this car is driving me nuts and im stuck without a ride over the winter.

thanks

I am having the same exact problem with my car, I havent gotten to drive it yet since i bought it, it runs really rough and i doubt it will move far at all if anywhere. My problem is it is really loud up front and it also gets flooded. Changed the fuel filter plugs and wires, then it started right up and was quiet, 2minutes later it got loud again flooded and stalled out. Sorry i dont really have any information for you except if your car is RED then there is going to be a problem:| Being you live in the same part of PA as me, And your two letters off from my screen name which gets me confused when reading stuff.:(
LOL just joking;) :), maybe we need to say a short prayer for are cars that have fallen victim to this tragic yet sudden occurance.

Rob.

LOL nah mines a black 92 with tan leather interior, 6 bolt block, 4 bolt rear with ABS and the viscous LSD in rear. when i got the car the timing belt on there had a rip so i put together this hypothesis. the timing belt got a small rip in it, causing it to stretch just enough to jump 2 maybe 3 teeth, causing the piston to nick the valve and bend it, i gotta run a compression test to verify this but if thats all it needs...im gonna get a worked head for it, im from scranton pa, i believe ive talked to u in PM before, maybe once i get mine in action ill give u a call and we can meet up somewhere, i have a 90 gst which is white and a 93 gs which is dark green also.

Sure, I wouldent mind coming up there, Whenever you get it running just give me a pm maybe we can set something up and hang out, i know for me it would be different being i dont hang out with people i dont know. but ya awsome.
