for what its worth, i am a locksmith and have a key duplicator....i will not put steel keys in it, nor will any of my professional associates... for what its worth.....

Aluminum keys are ok for moderate use but for a door/ignition key um no. I had an aluminum house key and the sucker would bend like crazy in my dead bolt lock, one day it just broke off when I turned the latch.

The key would need to be made of some metal stronger and harder then aluminum but steel, Ti, and other hard metals also pose the problem of getting them cut to the needed pin set.

If it's made from a material that a locksmith will cut, I'll order one. I like the last rendering, personally.

So will this ever become a reality?

I'm just waiting on one last quote from a local machine shop which is supposed to come in this week, if they keep saying they're too busy I'll go with another place that already gave me a quote. The manufacturing should take 2-3 weeks so I'm hoping to have all of them in my hands, ready to sell by mid to late August.

Good to hear, but any chance of getting one very soon? My mom left my key on her trunk then drove her car around

Hey all,

I searched a bit, but couldn't find the answer. I need a backup key made for the Talon. Should I goto a Chrysler dealer (closest) with VIN & proof of ownership or the Mitsu dealer or what?

Thanks!

Haha, problem is that my mom just lost the ORIGINAL key for the Talon, which is why I need one remade. The copy I have now is jank; one side opens the trunk and the other side opens the door WTF

i would like to know this also.

my keys are messed up, the original (i think its the original) is kind of warped and twisted a little bit, and it will unlock the hatch and doors, but wont turn the ignition. my copy from walmart will turn the igniton, but wont unlock the doors. and the walmart copy will only turn the ignition if its in a certain way, like if you flip the key over, then it wont turn. :notgood:

yea, just go down to the mitsubishi/whatever dealership, give them ur vin and they will make you a new key...as long as it's not a car older then 10 years.

A good locksmith should be able to read the key by looking at it and cut one to spec.
The lock cylinders are supposed to have the number on them so you can pull one and they can use that too.

When I went to get a new key for the stealth they dealer wanted the title to prove it was my car not just the VIN. Then after another trip to produce the title, they told me it was too old and they couldn't look it up anymore.

Call your parts shop and ask them, and if it comes up craps, call a real locksmith. Those guys are artists.
Try to get the Ilco blank, MIT4-P. It's much nicer than the Curtis. You can find them on eBay if your local shops don't have any.
Ilco blank is MIT4-P
