I just bought a 1994 non-turbo talon. I need to pick up a few things for it. I need a new set of keys, the one I have almost bends in half, and a power steering belt. Where is the best place to get them?

Dealer or NAPA for the belt, but I'd go to a real locksmith for keys. They, unlike the dealer, understand about how locks wear, and know to compensate for it in the cutting. And, he will probably have the Ilco MIT4-P blank with the nice plastic head instead of the crappy Curtis with no trim.

go for it, i really want to get one since i'm always lost since I got my rolex( i got it for graduation) stolen.

Hey guys,
I lost the only key I had to my car, I just bought it a couple weeks ago so I hadn't been able to make a copy of it. Anyways, I order the correct key for my car from the factory? How do I need to go about getting a key for it, and how much is it gonna cost? Thanks, Michael

dealership, with your VIN number, i dont know about price, could be a little pricey, but since youre a 1995 they should be able to help you.

Great. That's what I was hoping for. Anybody dealt with this and know how much it costs? Dang, if someone in town would have just been able to make a copy of this freaking key for me when I tried! Thanks for the help.

Hey everyone, thanks for your quick help, got two new keys made up today, $7 each. Not bad. In case this question comes up again. Here's what you do. Take in documentation with your vehicles VIN#, proof of ownership, and photo ID and they'll make you a new key. Thanks again everyone.

Good deal, thanks for the feedback. FIRST confirmation I've ever seen that they can cut a key from the VIN information, although we've been talking about it for years.

Now, make a habit of carrying two keys, in separate pockets.

And, carry them naked. No boat-anchors hanging off them.

Go to a locksmith for an Ilco MIT4-P blank, with nice rubber head.

I've been looking for an OEM key blank for my Talon for a while.

Does anyone have a picture of their original key? Does it have the Eagle logo or the Chrylsler pentagram?

That's definitely interesting. My wife has a 93 Laser and her key is plain with a plastic textured surface at the top. I thought hers was a copy but I guess it's the original. Do the original keys have the key code on them?

The key I have is an Ilco but it's twisted and seemed pretty poor quality, the code on it is MIT1-P

The one that I have looks like this:

The one Defiant posted is this one:

They're probably the same, just given different part numbers for the different manufacturers.

Mine says "MIT8AP-ITALY" on the top and looks like the one defiant posted.

I just did a Google search. It looks like MIT8 is the same as the others except it's the Silca part number instead of Ilco.

And for those reading this thread you now know more than you would ever want to about key blanks for these cars :D

Cool, ya know now that I look again on the other side of the key it's barely readable but it does say Silca.

Do any of you guys have the blank that comes with the owners manual to keep in your wallet? It's molded in a burgandy color, mine was never cut.
