Ask Me, Virginia
I have never pulled anything besides transmissions and cylinder heads in my life.

I'd like to pull my 6 bolt with everything in it from the subject parts car then store it for a bad day.

how hard would it be to pull that bottom end out and what do I need to pull it out? Does it come out from the bottom or the top?

Again, the head is off and most things are out of the engine bay including the trans and t-case.

Please don't sugar coat the job. I am slower than most and unfortunately the car is sitting on gravel with a piece of plywood under it. I bet that bottom end weighs a ton!

Thanks for the help!

I did this for the first time on my 90 talon a month or two back with the transmission and it wasn't that bad.

I used a shop crane (cherrypicker) and pulled it out from the top. Just take the hood off, connect the crane onto the shortblock, remove all remaining mounts and then lift it out of the bay. From there you walk the crane back and lower the shortblock onto a dolly or hook it up to a stand. If it's just a shortblock it'll weigh around 150lbs. Best way to store it would be to tear it apart, clean everything, oil machined areas/spray some WD40 and then wrap the part up with stretch wrap. If you want to leave it assembled you could wrap it up as a whole and drop it on a tire or dolly and call it a day.

I was working on dirt so I feel your pain. It'll be difficult meneuvering the crane but just have a buddy or two around when you're ready to pull it out.

Good luck

Loving it. Might want to get an HF crane and do something to trailer it over. No buddies around. Great base technique.

I just bought a 1 ton HF crane this week and i have to say the quality isn't that bad. It came in two boxes and easily fit in my corolla. If you plan on dropping a motor in you may want to pick up a leveler while you're at HF. You can definitely do it by yourself, I'd suggest picking up some plywood and laying it in the gravel so you can move the crane
