Hey guys, I have my turbo setup just about complete, the turbo itself is the last piece of the puzzle. I have a T3 manifold and thus am in store for that type of turbo. I was wondering what (used) turbo you guys can recommend for just a DD setup. I'm on a budget of about 200, not looking for anything fancy, just something that'll do the job.

I'm preferring an externally gated turbo since I really don't want to have the flapper welded. However, if it comes down to it, I figure it'll suffice.

No eBay brands please.

I have yet to turbo my 420a but the turbo I picked up was a evo 3 16g used on here for $150 and I found a used T3 20G 8cm housing for the hotside. its the housing off the cyclone/typhoon GM trucks. I got that for $60. you can try and do it that way. I wanted a turbo that was proven but also water and oil cooled for daily duty (eventhough my car isn't my daily). The slightly bigger housing will make it a little laggy compared to the 7cm housing but it shouldn't be too bad plus I have 10.5:1 pistons.

here is a link to the housing:

Forced Performance Turbochargers: Syclone/Typhoon 8CM Turbine Housing

you can always grab a 14b on here and make an adapter using 2 flanges (1) T3 and (1) TD05.

It all depends what used deals are out there at what prices since there are obviously no *new* $200 T3 turbos aside from Chinese eBay junk, and you've already specified that you're not willing to use one of those. I mean a GT3076R would be a great option if you're lucky enough to find one for $200....catch my drift?

That in mind, this entire thread is based on speculation.

I threw the link there so you could see the housing. I stated that I found it used for $60 so it all came to $210. Right in your price range. I did actually read your whole post.

I did get where the housing is from wrong though. Its from a 17C my bad.

Check ebay for a Ford thunderbird turbo coupe, 1983-1986, Merkur XR4Ti... Both ran a garrett or air reaserch turbo T3 flange.

All are Internal WG, and the down elbow will face the wrong way, this is the same part a DSM'er would call the O2 housing.

But good luck for finding a decent one, since they are older than a 1g DSM

The IHI on the 87-88 TCs would fit, but are smaller

Yeah I'm not looking for new, I don't mind rebuilding it, that's not a big deal.

Do you guys think a Holset H1C would have clearance under the hood with my Star log manifold?

What would be the benefit of going non divided T3 vs divided T3?
