Hi every one this is going to be kinda a dumb question but i have to ask. I got a t3 garrett turbo andwere the internal wastegate could go their are a few cracks in the housing they do go all the way though but I do not know if maybe it could be repaired? I'll post pics of the turbo. Also i bought the turbo used have not used it yet. Do you have to hock up the water cooling lines?

Not at all man. Especially if you are running an external wastegate. You don't t have to run the coolant lines but if you look at my profile pics, you can see how I ran mine. I think I might have the same turbo as you...I can't fully tell from the pic. Keep in mind though, that I have deleted my heater lines. The main reason that I decided to run the coolant lines is it's just added insurance. I would suggest if you decide to run the lines and keep your heater lines hooked up, run from the pump to the heater core, the core to the turbo, and the turbo to the head. This will keep the turbo-heated fluid off of your core and keep it from frying out too quickly.

Why are you trying to get your money back? Do you not want to mess with coolant lines?

if you look at the pic the cracks go all the way up to the flange and they go all the way though. If I were to shine a light down in the hot side i can see light out of the cracks. I have no problem with the coolant lines. I think that is a great idea to run them and will if i can find a hot side for cheap.

Unless you bought the turbo with advertised damage to the exhaust housing I would send that back and find another one.
The housing can be replaced but you can't really repair cracks in cast iron turbo stuff. It has been my experience so far, that even when welded at the proper temperature with the proper filler rod and cooled down properly, eventually the part will crack again (usually sooner than later). To me, that's unacceptable damage unless it was disclosed.

Running the water lines is pretty much optional. At least block the passages off on the center section if you don't run them though (with this turbo, or another). I choose to run water lines if the center section was designed to have them.

I didn't zoom in on it when I looked at the pic the first time. I didn't see that crack going all the way down....That is kinda bad. I would ask Jusmx141 if he can find you a new housing for it. He's the guy to talk to on Tuners about turbo parts, rebuilding, and Pnp jobs. If that is the same turbo as mine, it is definitely worth the extra effort to have that specific turbo. It's good to 21lbs and has an extremely quick spool. I used to have full spool by 3800 on the ebay t3/t4. Now, I have full spool (9lbs) by 2800 at WOT. But, even if it's not, it's still a t3 Garrett....

you're welcome Adam :D

+1 to what Adam said, that t3 Garrett rapes my t3/t4 in spool times, so it's definitely worth getting a new housing for. If you end up not using it, let me know and i'll buy it off of you if the price is good.

There is no effective way to weld cast....you should buy a new / used replacement housing.

Judging by your pic, your turbo has a Stage 1 turbine wheel. You should shop around for a turbine housing in whatever a/r you're looking for that mates to that turbine wheel and that turbine wheel only.

Do you have to hock up the water cooling lines?
It is recommended but not absolutely necessary. Apparently your turbo came from the factory on a gasoline application.

So i got a new hot side for my turbo that had the cracked hot side. The only thing that i see weird and want to know if it will have any big effects is both housings are .48 a/r but the new one is a little bigger were the turbine goes. Ill post pics. the turbine I am using is an intruder of 2.310 and an extruder of 1.870. the housing measures 2.853. The turbine that came with the hot side is an intruder of 2.521 and an extruder of 2.233. Will the big difference really make the turbo lag or not work right?

NOT a 60-1.

A 60-1 compressor has 7 major blades and a much straighter leading-edge angle to the blades:
