Ok so I'm new here and to 4g63t's(why I'm posting in the newbies section LOL) and I juat recently purchased a t3/t4 .60 turbo ( mine was blown in the coolant department). Is this turbo too big for a 2.0? All I know is it's HUGE compared to the stock 14g, and I know it will move ALOT more air too LOL. Please let me know and if anyone can, let me know what the specs on this motor are. Like how much hp can it handle stock, what boost level I should run at, etc. All new to the turbo game and trying to research as much as I can.

Thanks

No its NOT too big, but you will need a new Exhaust Manifold and External wastegate to install that turbo to your car.
The stock 6bolt engine CAN handle upwards of 500 HP if you have the right supporting mods, Like Bigger injectors, Bigger fuel pump, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, DSMLink OR SAFCII to tune it. Front mount intercooler, Wideband, Logger, Larger Exhaust and so on and so on.

You CAN'T just slap a bigger turbo on and boost the hell out of it.

Read the TECH section UPGRADE paths for the 1g DSM. Here is the link

if your new to the whole turbo world i wouldnt have just hurried up and bought a big turbo. the factory 14b is a good turbo and can easily handle 275-300 hp with the suporting mods. But yes like Jeff99GS said it will work with a exhaust manifold, downpipe, new oil and coolent lines and so on. But its going to cost you a good chunk to fit it in. I sugjest a 16g turbo. They fit up fine and work great.

If you just bought the vehicle i would suggest taking some money from selling that "60 trim" investing it in more important parts of your car such as maintenance. Most people who buy these cars just want to crank the boost up right away because the engine can theoretically handle it, but only if proper maintenance is done.

Also follow the upgrade path, do some free mods. Get your hands dirty, familiarize yourself with the vehicle and turning wrenches. This will save you lots of money in the long run and help you in your goal of going fast.

Last but not least, read, read, read, read. Do as much research as you can on your car. There is 100's of years of experiance on this website alone. Don't be afraid to use the search function and if you can't find what it is your looking for don't be afraid to ask. Oh yah and have fun with you dsm :talon: :thumb:

Ok, I bought the turbo not exactly knowing it was a big turbo, I just found it on craigslist, and it was brand new. My old turbo is junk, so I needed a new one, and this was new LOL. I had no idea what it really was until I saw it and the guy was explaining to me what it was (he was going to use it on an old ford truck with a 460).If need be I can give you all the numbers on the housing. As I said though, I bought it because it was newer than mine, and I wanted to have and upgrade ready to go. But considering the work I will probably trade it for a 14g.

I also realize I can't just boost the heck out of the motor without doing some work first. I've seen friends grenade perfectly good cars doing just that and call them crap. :toobad:
Everything has their limit, and if you wanna play, you gotta pay LOL.

I have been researching this car like mad (dsmtalk is awesome, so is here), and so far have found out so much stuff so useful. I have used the search button for this topic, just couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. My car already came with a modified aircan, but I want to redo it, considering this car was literally just bolted together(OMG it's been a nightmare). I just recently got the vacuum line nightmare fixed.....thanks to here of course.

I do appreciate the input though guys.

One last question though....anyone ever heard of using "window weld" (black goopy stuff used to seal windshields) to fix motor mounts? If not...boy do I have a pic for you all LOL.ROFL

You do not necessarily need work done to your motor beside the usuall support bolt ons, and the usuall maintanance. IT is all about the tunning and knowing how to dial things in, because you could run that 60 trim turbo but blow things up left and right, and i know plenty of guys where they run 16g turbo and make 375hp, so make sure you have the supporting mods and read more on tunning and what is needed to get the big power.

Yea, I know the power of tuning. I had an 85 Trans Am with a nice 327 that didn't quite run as it should. After a friend of mine helped me redo the valve lash and the carburetor, that car ran like a raped ape LOL.
The tuning part kinda scares me though on these cars. Not used to the elect. stuff really. Oh btw I'm keeping the t3 but gonna buy a 14b for the car for now.
