Has anyone swapped a T3 exhaust housing onto an EVO VIII 16g and used it on a 1g? I realize that some lines would have to be made and I did some research but didn't get a clear answer about swaping the exh. housing and making them work. Found lots of info on doing this for RWD conversions but not on the 1g.

Edit:

Didn't see Evo8 first time.

Its been tried and done. Not worth the effort.

A single scroll T3 defeats the point of the Twin Scroll Evo8 turbo, might as well use a plain 16G.

Why would a T3 housing make a RWD conversion easier? If you have a T3 manifold already, just get an adapter. As stated above, you'll be defeating the twin scroll setup the Evo8 has. Unless your manifold spaces the turbo out a little extra, an Evo 8 turbo will probably hit the DSM's engine block.

New turbine housings (besides ebay ones) cost way more than they're worth to put on a 16G. You might as well get a Holset while you're at it.

No turbine housing in the world will compensate for the fact that the Evo VIII and IX turbos rotate the wrong direction for use on a DSM.

If you install it how it would be on an Evo, the inlet would be on the driver's side and the exhaust outlet on the passenger's side. If you somehow flip the turbo 180*, the angle of the turbine housing would push the turbo through the radiator.

Obviously there's a reason that Evo VIII and IX turbos can be found dirt cheap in good, used condition....their ignorant fitment to other models would be the main reason.

He wants to do it for a RWD conversion, so the turbo would point right -- compressor inlet toward the front of the car.
I think he meant the only information he could find was for guys doing RWD conversions....not that he's doing one himself. It sounds like he's trying to put an Evo VIII 16G on his 1G, in which case he's better off playing with his Long Duk Dong.
