Differences in Evo 3 16G and Evo VIII 16G?

I have a friend that has a ported Evo 3 16G turbo for sale, but I also see several Evo VIII 16G turbo's on ebay? What is the difference? Are both direct bolt-ons for a 1G?
 
No.

The EVO 8 16G has a completely different turbine housing that will not bolt up to a DSM. It's designed for a twin-scoll manifold that comes on the EVO 8's. Aside from that, it faces the wrong direction IIRC.

EVO III's are the last generation of EVO parts that are DSM-compatible, aside from minor things like injectors.
 
I agree with psychlow, the only bolt up will be the Evo 3 not the Evo 8. I still don't understand what the all-of-a-sudden interest is in the Evo 8 turbo on a 4g63, there have been at least 3-4 threads in the past 2 weeks about bolting the Evo 8 turbos up to DSMs.
 
As they said, the EVO3 is the LAST generation of EVO turbos that will bolt up to a DSM.

so the evo 3 16g will bolt right up to a 1g dsm with a 14b on it? im asking just because it think its better to ask then to mess something up. or will i need to do any mods to the car to get teh evo 3 16g on there?
 
The evo III 16g is a direct bolt-on for 1g's. If you had to spend your money on one thing i would get a logger:thumb:
 
Is there any difference in the compressor and turbine wheels of both these turbos? What about the physical size of the housings? The EVO 8 16G is physically larger than the EVO 3 variant, so I was curious as to if anyone knew the differences (details) in the 2 turbos, other than than one being reverse and twin scroll.
