I have an EVO VIII motor and wanna do a swap into a 1g or 2g.
Is that possible?
and sorry if this is in the wrong place i wasn't sure where it should go.

I have the tranny and all that to.. does that make it any easier or cheaper?

not to mention the problem that the 3g is in no way compatible for AWD so the trans and x-fer case are worthless.

Actually an evo 8 engine will bolt right in a 3G 420a eclipse so it might bolt into a 2g 420a eclipse too.

What are you talking about dude? 3G's never came with the 420A motor. The 2g NT's did but not because the motor/tranny is setup the same way as the Evo doesn't mean it won't be a ton of fabrication, wiring and not to mention drivetrain issues.

To the OP, if you're really thinking of doing this you have your work cut out for you and it will truly be an adventure to drive you and your bank account crazy. :notgood:

Thanks guys
What year mirage's? and do you know how much fab work it would need?

97-01, They're similar to an Evo 4-6, but there are still differences and it is still a rediculous amount of work and without an Evo frontclip your missing most of the required parts. You might seriously consider looking for an Evo without an engine. Cruise the classifieds on evolutionm.net and craigslist, they pop up every now and then. Last one I saw was a mint black 03' with like 16k on the clock, no motor or trans and the dude was asking like $12k.

you can build a 1g/2g 4G63 better than you would get a stock EVO4-9 engine with less hassle. I think it would be a bad decision to try when other methods are proven to work great. If you want to fabricate, build up your 4G63 and make it rear wheel drive! :) I'd give you more credit for that.

Sorry i assumed 3g's had a 420a but an evo will bolt into a 3G 4 cylinder car i've seen it done. You'll have to check i beleive it was one of the last articles in an old back issue of sport compact car there was some place building them. They said the swap wasn't that hard but they were still working on a way to get the awd to work.
