Hey everyone, i'm a newbie to this forum but not a newbie to DSM's. I can pretty much tell you anything about a 420A (besides the fact that they are slower than *%#*). Anyways I just purchased a 97 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, and i have to say it is awesome, i totally regret dumping like 7K in my GS. Back on topic, when i first bought the Talon the T25 would spool great but he wasn't running synthetic and the car also had lifter tick. So i searched and i recently changed out my oil with Mobil 1 10W30 SuperSyn and filter and Lucas Oil Stabilizer. The lifter tick is much quieter now but when i went for a drive the turbo barely spools, wtf!? My car feels like a stock GS. I put in 2 quarts of stabilizer in first then 2.5 of the Mobil. I noticed that the stabilizer is very thick and honey like. Should I have put the Mobil in first or did i put too much of the stabilizer?

I've never ran it so I dont have any personal experences but I know a guy that lost 2+ motors because it gummed up the pump. Its one of those things that cant be proven either way, some people have good luck with it some dont

Just out of curiosity, how did it gum up the pump? When I put a motor together I pack the oil pump with grease(to prime it) and that doesnt gum it up. Why does he say the lucas caused the failure?

Well I guess his reasoning is that hes build plenty of motors and the only thing he did different was use lucas and it faild due to lack of oil, like I said different people have different experences

ive used ams oil and its awesome. looks clean for a long time and theres special formulated oils for turbo cars and whatnot. stoped my lifter tick also.....

royal purple is good also.

Yeah i heard Amsoil is the leader in synthetic. Where can I find Amsoil at a decent price?

I am curious as well because lucas is not any thicker than the assembly lube that is used when you put your engine together.

As for AMSoil I do not know if it is true or not, but my diesel technologies instructor told us that AMSoil is a company formed by the scientist who developed synthetic oils for the military. I do know that synthetic oil was designed by the military to lubricate their plane engines at high altitudes because it can handle extreme temprature changes better than natural oils.

Really there isn't a huge difference between oils, they all have to meet certain standards and most of them are refined at the same place, then each individual company adds their own additives package. I myself will be using royal purple all around

That is completely accurate for natural oils but the synthetic oils are not refined they are actually made in a lab. Yes they all have to meet the same standards, but because they are made with different additives they have different qualities. Some oils will clean better than others, some will fight break down better.

I thought the oil capacity on the 4G was 4.6 quarts? When i was checkin for shaft play i noticed oil dripped a bit form the intake side of the turbo, is this normal? My turbo won't push more than like 5 psi now, it think i f*$&*d it up.

As someone else pointed out, oil in your compressor housing may be due to the breather hose that runs from the passenger side of your valve cover back to your intake. Oil flipping around in there makes its way into the breather hose and eventually into your intake.

However, it can also be due to oil blowing out through the seals in your turbo bearing. If you check the Stage 0 mods in the Tech Guide section here it describes how you can keep oil from getting into your intake.

If you take off your MAS and intake tube (from the air box to the turbo) and clean out the intake tube, you could run the car and find out if you still have oil in your compressor housing. If you do, your turbo bearing seals are probably leaking or blown. Others on the forum might be able to tell you if you can salvage your turbo for $$$. If you push it too far, though, you'll ruin the housings and wheels. Then the turbo is no better than a paperweight (cool paperweight, though!!).
