t25 shaft play

Holy cow that is a lot of in/out play!

There shouldn't really be any in/out play, and very little side to side.

shouldnt the oil pressure take up a little bit of the play?

Yeah I would have to agree that that turbo is well on its way out. Not really worth the rebuild either, as you could find a 14b used for what you would spend on the rebuild kit maybe a little more but would be a worthy upgrade.

Dang. And yea I definitely wont rebuild it. Either find a super cheap t25 or just get a 14b for the time being.

Yeah, you could go to a 14B, but what condition is it gonna be in...how long will it last?
Turbos have become pretty affordable over that the last several years. I mean, MHI E16G's....T28's....Hybrids....Sleeper 16G's....18G's...HTA68....FP3160. Any of these can be had for under a grand (The MHI EVO16G can be found for around $500!) And any of these will easily put 350-400 to the wheels.

That might be a good start...but then again, I'm only presuming what kind of power levels your hoping to attain.

I dont know what used 14B's are goin for nowadays, but depending on your budget, perhaps babying whatever life's left in the T25 (stay outta boost), you might be able to get something crispy to start with....

yes this t25 turbo should be removed before it goes and make you real damage .

go with a small 16g instead of the 14B if you have the money .

or you can buy a 16g of ebay for pretty cheap , tried and tested and it did not give me any problem . ( some people may disagree with me here, but i believe that they have not tried it)

good luck

It's junk. If there's that much in/out play, you probably already have pieces of the thrust plate in your oil pan.

The compressor wheel has ground itself down against the compressor cover to the point where it wouldn't build boost efficiently if you were to rebuild it. Replacement wheels are too expensive to repair a turbo that is already undersized on our cars.

On the upside, you have yourself a nice, new doorstopper.

Hey RayBan, contact my buddy "Julian" he lives here in the twin cities (not far from you), he does all sorts of rebuilds, and he has several 14bs and 16g's in stock, he rebuilds every turbo he sells with new bearings, and he warranties his work, so no worries, its gonna last a long time

Please dont call, just text, he keeps strange hours 651-366-1706, give him your name and what you want

Hey man it was not me who wants turbo , plus i live in DUBAI :)

what i heard in my 3 years in this forum is that JUSMX141 is the best when it comes to Turbos ( so basically he is the man ) :thumb:

So my best bet is not even put it back in the car for a little? And im going to wait on the 16g, maybe get one with all the supporting mods at the end of summer. I just want to get something so I can get the car running and get all the bugs worked out before boosting it alot. Since the car has been sitting since 2002.

Play that bad will only get worse....rapidly.

By reinstalling it as-is you're risking constant oil burning because of the shaft play, the thrust plate falling apart entirely and ending up in the oil pan, or the compressor wheel breaking apart from hitting the cover and filling your intercooler with aluminum.

Oh its just the sidemount :p I think Im going put the t25 in and just get the car running and see how the play is when theyres oil pressure in it. And look for a 14b to replace once I know everything on the car is 100%.

What do you guys think? What do I all need for the 14b? Oil lines, j-pipe/ic pipes? I already have a walbro 255. I dont need bigger injectors yet do I? And will the sidemount be sufficient?

Do you really want to chance that metal getting into your motor? When the oil runs through the turbo and pics up specs of metal, that will also get recirculated through your motor.

Just pick up another turbo, you can get a 14b for under $100.

alright Ill start looking around.
