swapping out a 4g63T for a 4g63 non-turbo

Hi boys and girls.. i have a 95 talon tsi fwd and the motor is bad in it and a buddy of mine has a jdm 4g63 with around 40k on it.. he bought it for his talon and ended up not restoring the shell and sold it but he never sold the motor so i bought it from him and so i am going to do a swap plus put all my aftermarket parts onto this new motor which consist of 550 injectors larger intake manifold mbc, forced performance 18G turbo 255 walbro pump and dsmlink V3 full. not this car was originally running 18psi low boost and 22psi high boost. now my quest is what would the safe boost be to run on this car since it is a n/t motor? i have oil press, wideband, and boost guages also.. any suggestion or help would be appreciated and i have a friend that has the dsmlink V3 full and laptop and i have never use this before so i want any info so i do not wreck a good motor..:pray:
 
Shouldn't have wasted your money. You will be lucky to see 10psi.

Your better off selling your aftermarket parts and getting rid of those garbage internals for something beefier. All that engine is good for is the block, to build.
 
Well the n/t has no oil squirters and the ring lands are closer to the top of piston with a tighter ring end gap and slighty higher compression. They aren't exactly weak but more so the idea is the ring end gap butting and busting ring lands during detonation. I don't think you can run much boost on n/t pistons but its only a matter of time before someone comes in on that one. What year is this jdm block? Look at the 10 digit in the blocks vin and go here:

its a 6 bolt for a 94 eclipse.. and i am only using this motor as a replacement to build my 4g63T with internals.. and this 4g63T is all stock internal wise.. just injectors and larger intake for parts wise..
 
So let me get this straight... Your buddy has a 4g63 from Japan he never used and you want to buy it and put it in your car? Does the JDM engine have a knock sensor and oil squirters? As already stated, you can only boost it to 7-8psi ad you'll have to thread a hole for your knock snesor.
 
You'll also on top of all that have to drill a return line in your oil pan I know it won't have that. Jdm or not its a non turbo motor. I wouldn't run more than 8 pounds. Think about coolant lines also. Just take it easy on boost and you'll be fine without the knock sensor though your pushing it not knowing

i have no clue if there is a knock sensor.. i will ahev to ask him that question i guess.. or should i just stay away from this non-turbo motor and just rebuild my tsi motor asap to get back on road? i mean i only paying $100 for this motor my buddy has.. and tapping for new oil line to the pan isnt a big deal... and what about coolant lines? what do i have to change with them? i am thankful for the help guys and also my buddy said its a 7 bolt like whats in the talon now.

can somebody like post a link to a pic of what a knock sensor looks like on the motor so i can check this other motor and see if it has a knock sensor..

no he never used it but he bought it from his buddy and it was in the car he bought running until the car got hit by a truck in the rear so he bought another eclipse and was going to restore the car and never put the motor in the other car he bought so i know it runs..

Some n/a blocks have a knock sensor so check that (threaded hole casting next to 2nd core plug from timing belt, firewall side) If you get forged pistons you don't have to tap for jet/squirters and the oil pan is pretty easy fix. Either way your looking to building an engine...but the 6bolt is probably still stock bore and its proven itself over and over

thanks for all the help guys!! and i have a shop doing the motor swap and my buddy is doing the tune on it for me since he is a dsm freak!! i love these cars too but he built his own motor and just installed a chevy duramax turbo into his talon tsi awd.. and he tuned it and has everything u can possibly buy into his motor and dynoed at 735 awhp.. he has put like $15000 into his build but he can also afford that but heck we all wish we had that kinda money right haha

could i possibly use my knock sensor from my 4g63T motor on the n/a motor??

Yeah just drill and tap if its not there. Since you have both engines just compare them side by side. This NA should at least have a blank chunk of metal to drill into. You have to do something with the coolant lines as well- a feed and return same as oil lines for turbo. Oil is easy enough just get an adapter for the oil filter housing to run a supply line from and drill the oil pan for oil return. Coolant lines I think you can just get a turbo waterpipe since it has the port. There's lots of threads on that though
 
My cousin was running 15 lbs on a 16g with no tune and the thing hauled MAJOR ass on an N/A. I would strongly suggest ECMLink but just saying.
 
From what I have seen, most N/A Cars handle up to 12 psi of boost. Anything after that then problems occur. My friend turboed his MR2 and is tuned to 8 psi. He has had absolutely no problems with it. So for a "safe-zone" I would go between 5-8 psi
 
If you have never boosted a n/t 4g6 engine then don't say what the limit is when you really don't know.

My 4g64 has seen 16-19 psi regularly as well as another friends has seen upwards of 21psi all stock bottom on the 4g64, now the 4g63 is probably no different besides even lower compression than the 64 so boost what you want.
