I just recently bought a 97 Eclipse Spyder GS and I was wondering if there’s any issues that I should keep a lookout regarding the swap to a 4G63T. Also any other tips that you would like to add would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I will have to find someone to do the swap for me since I do not have the skills nor the work area

I’ve been reading stuff for the last month on here. There is good information to be found here, either going full swap or dohc and turbo route. Problem is you’ll find a bunch of dead ends on information, or just incomplete information. Seems there is a lot of contradictory statements as well. Makes it pretty hard to figure out the best route.

Another hurdle I’m finding is sourcing parts. I find it hard to fish out 4K for a 4g63 motor with no turbo components, when it has an unknown history. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a complete engine which would make either swap, full or head up, a lot easier.

A lot I’ve read says full swap is easiest. Problem is finding a full engine.
If you go head swap route, I’ve read whatever gen head you use basically dictates what other parts you’ll use as far as plenum, tb, etc. but if you go to 1g, you may have wiring incompatibility issues with the engine harness. Been having a hard time finding details on these ‘swaps’ or ‘mods’ even though it seems many have done them. You can get a general overview of them though reading old posts. Just be prepared for a lot of dead links and unanswered questions.

I feel the same way on all points. I was hoping to boost my current setup like yours and then take steps on advancing the build (4g63 head swap, bottom end swap, six bolt swap, etc). Fortunately I have almost all the parts needed and the shop space/lift, tools to tackle most of the jobs. Just not really sure I wanna take the extra time to try and document it all, as I too will be going at it using tidbits of info of found aver the years. I’m not in a real rush to finish any step, so that would allow for time to document the progress I hope!

Perhaps if you choose to document, you could just focus on the info that was hard to find/missing.

It’d be nice if someone who has done this could chime in and confirm things or make suggestions with current information. I’ve seen posts of people with plans and what they plan on doing looking for feedback and may ask a question or two and gets nothing but crickets in response.

sorry I don't think your question was actually answered. Based on my observations, I think what you most have to look out for is part availability, the quality of those parts, and the knowledge/integrity of the person you trust to install the parts for you. In my recent years of collecting parts and rebuilding my Spyder (same as yours) I've learned a lot about these motors, and my willingness to seek out answers and results through perseverance are paying dividends now. I've got a few 4g63 blocks to build out and install, and after some research I realize I don't need to swap out any wire harnesses at all, the Spyder harness will work fine after some upgrades, like a knock sensor, fuel pump rewire, additional Spyder fuel pump relay bypass, boost solenoid wiring, and resistor box if using low z injectors. Doing the research here and elsewhere will pay off for all I hope!
