I have a 95 4g63t to go into my 96 spyder gs (4g64) What is the best route to go as far as a wiring harness and ecu. I need it to pass inspection and emissions because this is a DD car. So the 95 ecu and wiring harness will not work.

From what I was reading a 98/99 ecu is going to be best but will the4 98/99 ecu work with the plugs on the 95 motor?(something about a cam sensor placement or something?)...

Where is the best place to get a good condition ecu and Harness?

Thanks in advance

97-99 had the CAS on the passenger side, on the end of the intake cam. Other 7-bolts have it behind the intake cam gear. The only problem you might run into (depending on what harness you wind up getting) is that you could find yourself extending the CAS wiring. But to answer you question...Yes. It will work fine.

Start hitting up eBay, Craigslist, here on Tuners too. There's always parts. And you can always check the junk yards too.

Ok cool thanks for the info. I just wanted to go with the 98/99 because of being able to use that one datalog/burn program I cant remember the name. its like 20$

have fun finding a gs-t spyder around here for what I can sell my car for and I will do it. Until you do that maybe you should just not say anything... Think next time.

I just did my 6bolt swap on my gs spyder.I ended up using a 95 ecu and harness every thing hooked up just fine. but the gs spyder wire harness will also work you just needs a knock sensor wire and the injector suppersser (not sure what it's called) and an ecu. I changed mine because of a bad harness from a small fire :ohdamn:

the injector suppersser (not sure what it's called)

Its the injector resistor pack. :thumb:

That is always an option, but then you'll need some kind of engine management like megasquirt or something.
Yeah, like I said its more expensive. An SAFC/ecmlink, AFPR, 8.0:1 compression and larger injectors/fuel pump should be enough.

Im lost as to your prior post about not wanting to use the 95 ecu/harness because of emissions  if its a rare 95 its most likely EPROM and It would make life alot easier to just swap the harness and motor and be done. Not sure where you were heading with that statement but enlighten us :)

and to my knowledge you cant use the 98/99 ECUs in with the 95 harness/motor.. correct me if im wrong but ive read where people were having issues with this? or do I have it backwards?

A 95 Ecu will not work because of my car being a 96 obd2 I have to have a 96+ ecu for the emissions machine to understand everything. Anyway I did not get a harness or ecu with the motor so thats why I was wondering about a 98/99 ecu and harness because I thought that their ecu's were burnable with that one program so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

thanks again everyone

umm read up grasshopper the 95s were the first year of the OBDII and if the 95 ECU is EPROM then you can burn them. I think your getting some misinformation somewhere. Search this site its like the best source for GOOD info. I can take a pic of my 95 tsi with the OBDII port and snap a pic of the EPROM if you need help identifyin. The 95 has the same emissions but is actually less fickle with o2 sensor problems. Also if you plan on using the 98/99 ECU with the 95 motor you will have to figure something out with the firing order. If you dont have dsmlink you will through random multiple misfire codes as some 95s have a difference firing order than the 98,99s

If its a 7bolt and 2g ECU/wiring then its OBDII. To my knowledge they never made OBDI wiring etc in the 2g models WTF

So i have a 98 eclipse spyder with the 4g64 sohc and wanting to do a 4g63t swap. I have read on here that it just bolts right in. My question is what harness and ecu would i use? I wld assume the comp for the 4g63t but what about harness? ### help. i have searched and have found answers but some contradict others. btw im not completely sure if engine is a 6 or 7 bolt yet so if someone cld answer to both engines would be greatly appreciated. thanks :aha:

ok the age old 7 bolt 6 bolt question LOL just look at the flywheel it will have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt bolt pattern as far as the ecu and the wiring harness i have never looked into this as its to much trouble ive always thought to convert them over id rather just purchase a gst and not have the headach of converting. and then have the option with the gst to convert to a GSX spyder :)

i had a friend that did the swap and it turned out fine
the only thing i remember being different than the normal gs-t was the fuse box
but it never caused any problems
as long as you have all the essentials then it will work out fine for you

alright cool but what about the harness? i have the complete engine with all sensors and all. just dont know if the harness will plug in. any suggestions or even a list would be great. thanks
