Ive never really seen the insides of the rear diff in a 2g but my questions are:
Can i remove the lsd from my manual and install it in my auto diff?
Does it even remove from the gears inside?
Should i even bother with it if im going to weld my center diff?

As you can probably tell i have no idea whats going on inside, i just know that it works

No, the gear ratio is different between the auto and manual rear diffs. The ring gears are all the same(correct me if I'm wrong) but the diffs themselves are different ratios.

Autos do match the evo 8/9 non-acd/ayc(etc.) rear diff ratio and bolt right up to the ring gear. It's a nice upgrade over the stock viscous lsd and it's rebuildable to boot! Just one of the perks to an auto I suppose...LOL

I knew the gear ratio was different, but can i unbolt the lsd from the gearing or whatever it is connected to and connect it to the gearing of the auto diff, not sure if that works really not sure about anything in there other than it has teeth and whatnot ha
Good tip on the evo rear diff ill look into that

The differential swaps in; you would need to run the proper inner CV joints to match though. The LSD diff has one long splined joint that engages the viscous coupler and one pinion gear and the other axle joint engages the other pinion gear with a shorter stub length. The Non-LSD diff has two matching short inner CV joints that engage each pinion gear. The Evo 8/9 rear differentials fit inside the differential housing but you must use either Evo 8 inner CV joints as they have a different engagement length of the inner stub splines or you need to run DSS stage 5 rear axles with Evo 8 LSD 6-ball inner CV joints to make the Evo 8 rear differential work properly.

The rear differential ratio has nothing to do with the differential itself; only with the ring gear attached to the differential that can be unbolted and swapped out as well as the matching pinion gear that is driven by the driveshaft. You must use the proper ring and pinion depending on if you are auto or 5-speed to match the final drive of the transmission and the matching transfer case. The differential itself is interchangeable with 5-speed non-LSD, 5-speed LSD, auto non-LSD, auto LSD, and Evo 8/9 LSD as long as you have the matching axle cups installed.

Exactly the type of info i was looking for! I was curious if i should just scrap the dif with my car or if it would do me any good in my new auto with work of course.

Should i go through the trouble with swapping everything over if i plan to weld my center dif? Would it make much if any difference with rear lsd and welded center dif vs welded center and non-lsd rear?
