[Suspect Head Gasket leak, but] No obvious signs

I told a few people. that my head gasket went out the other night. Well, here's the situation. We pulled the head, and the gasket shows some signs of where it was leaking, but there's no blatant spot that indicates that it was blown.

What happened was, when I began to give it gas, we heard a loud noise, maybe something blowing, not sure though; and it began to spew whitewhite smoke out of the exhaust and run poorly.

We were fairly certain it was the head gasket, but like I said it's not very obvious if it did blow. My question is, what else could have went all of the sudden that would have caused the same thing to happen? Maybe a turbo seal?

Turbo seals can also display the same signs as unburnt oil pour into the hot side can be white with a tiny hint of blue. You definitely jumped the gun on pulling the head, was compression or leakdown done prior to pulling it.

No leakdown or compression was tested. I was planning on replacing the head gasket for awhile now, so when this incident happened I just took advantage and decided to replace.

Did the white smoke have a very "sweet" smell to it? Antifreeze has a very distinct smell. You can usually tell if the leak is coolant by the smell...

did you check the head for cracks(between valves especially). Was it ever overheated
