Hey guys I was wondering what kind of things you did or some examples for me to get a sub in my `97 Spyder. Thanks alot for the help...:thumb:

Considering the fist example is NOT in a Spyder I can not use it...the second is more general also, wanted to know how and exactly what people did for a Spyder. Thanks though

Plus on neither thread was their anything about a convertible at all.

I am curious how it really matters. Spyders have a trunk lid and convertible top, otherwise the same.

No they are not the same. the trunk is smaller. where do you think the top goes?

Heres my box in the making thatll go in the backseat All JL componets amp goes on the right and cap on the left the sub is a 12" JL.

Its in production then to be fiberglassed

The box now is air tight and we need to port and fiberglass it and wire it all up. I got a red top to power it since its ####hing about 800w It should be done by summer

I spotted this on ebay one day and liked the look, so I kept the picture. The guy was trying to sell just the box for like $800 and it said in the auction that it was completely removeable and kept the stock seats in place. I don't know the specs, but if you like it I can't see it being that hard to duplicate.

I like that box your making up there, I'm just curious how are you going to install it? Let me know I really like it and let me know if I can get the dimensions and what you used. Thanks alot man...also yea I saw that on eBay also, it seems like it might be alot more work involved.

hey whats up there... i just got done having 2 10" L7's installed... i really liked what people did with the install in the space below where the top goes... i went with L7's because they require very little space and i have a huge kicker amp stashed in that space as well... the install is clean and doesnt rattle... my top goes down all the way with no problems and the subs are standing up facing my trunk...hits very hard for a convertible and i have no trunk rattle whatsoever.. best part is people have no idea where my system is and if you try accessing it through the trunk you have the Crossbar there stopping somebody from stealing my subs... you can always take 2 screws off and pop the seats off but i doubt anybody who is trying to steal it would know that.... so i suggest doing as i did.. unless you want to remove your rear seats and do a custom fiberglass setup like the guy above... I had a shop do my whole stereo cd,components, sub and amp install with custom carpeted box for the L7's for 300$..... choice is yours!:thumb:

Just thought I would show you my simple set up, all I did was take an old box I found made stands on the bottom of it to follow the contours of the seats re-cover the front and the sides and make a template for the top of the box for visual purposes and cover that in gray vinyl.
The amp is located on the ground behind/under the passenger seat. System sounds great no rattles whether the top is up or down.

The other nice thing is the box takes about 30 seconds to unhook the subs and take out of the car.

I had a sealed box with 2 10"s in the trunk. The amp sat on the back seat. It was a tight fit but it worked well for me. Of course some a-holes stole the box (and head unit) out of my car before it got totalled. They left the amp though...

here is the pic of my setup from the trunk... kicker L7 10'' with the box custom made to specs of subs... still fits under the top with amp mounted to the back of the box.... takes me a total of 5 minutes to remove the seats and make adjustments on the amp...

any other questions or pics let me know...

I love seeing all the different ideas that people come up when doing audio work. Here is what I'm working on for my 2g spyder.

How has the progress gone on this project from months bygone? How did you get the battery down in the spare tire area? sis you remove anything? I haven't tried fitting my yellow top in there.

I'm brainstorming ideas for a trunk setup, i'd like to keep space, such as integrate a full main battery relocation with 12's on either side and then submount an amp in a recessed box protected by plexi as well as a cap and some mitsu logo all light up. THoughts?

I'm working towards a goal for a halloween carshow we host in Fairfax called "Trunk Or Treat" and i just gotta have a good looking trunk byt Oct31st! ;)

Curt and I are going to build a sub enclosure in his spyder with a custom tool box flush in the trunk so he still has his trunk and all the space without everything all unorganized.

Sorry I never posted up pics again here is the finished product.

This is how I mounted the battery.
1g battery box w/ red top and I cut the section out between the 2 bolts for the washer fluid holder.

There is still enough room in the trunk to put a few small bags and or a chair or 2.
There are more pics of the install here.

I'm working on a setup in my Hatchback to make sure I don't lose any and if any, space at all... However for the looks, I am installing My 2nd and brand new Optima Redtop in where the stock cd change was supposed to go...

We'll possibly do the same with Curtis's car, if he's into it. That image is a preinstallation photo, it is not finished I just ran out of supplies but right now I'm sanding it down, getting marks setup for the Optima GM Mounting Brackets and I'm going to drill the holes for the brackets in the floor board just so I know the battery is pinned down! When installed, you cannot even see the hole unless you shove your head in the hatch and look for it... plus I'm painting the panel black, so it should be almost difficult to see.

But at the same time I'm looking into a new location to install the battery, completely outside of the sub body, and totally hidden! Just haven't goten around to it with my first child about to come popping out :D

When Curt and I start the work on his Spyder, I'll renew this thread if its not around anymore to show you guys.
