ok. pretty retarded question actually and i can't even really believe i am going to ask this.

does the greddy type rs bov make a "whistle" noise when it is recirculated? my husband is getting ill at me because i got the fitting to recirc it, when he wanted it to vent so he could hear it whistle. i told him that i'm trying to keep his motor in tact while i'm working on it, so i recirc'd it, so i won't have to worry about air/fuel ratios being harmed in the process.

so yeah... does it whistle?

For one the RS doesn't produce the same whistle as the S. You-tube it for a comparison. Also OFC since it is recirc it will be quieter but you should still be able to hear it. IMO a car that runs correctly is better then a sound. You can get a maf or something that will adjust so it can be vented if it is that important. Goodluck.

I agree with the above poster, if he wants the sound, tell him to get a GM MAF and a MAFT and run it blow though. Then he can vent the BOV to the atmosphere and get all the whistles he wants. Good job recirculating it though!

well the lovely little kit i got for the intercooler (ebay special, shhh) came with a "type s" bov. it's got that cute little carbon fiber look alike mess on top. i guess he really wants to hear it make noise, so should i use that one instead? i'm really not understanding why the noise is so important, yeah it sounds cool i 'spose, but apparently he really wants to hear it. so i dunno.

ok... so this is his response to his mom on facebook after she asked him what he was talking about when he was fussing about me buying "such an expensive blow off valve" when it's not gonna do what he wants...

"It is for my car. Instead of the air ricircing back through the intake i am pretty much wanting to vent to the atmosphere cause the car is old and i want to raise the boost on my turbo and to much air recircing back through could mess up a very expensive sensor i need to run my car."

someone help me out here. :\

You will still hear the bov sound dont worry. Is this what your husband said? he has absolutly no clue what he is talking about. Just ask him this... Do you want your car to run good and strong, or do you want your car to stall and run like garbage?

If he choices runs strong, then tell him its staying recirculated. Then again its his car, if he really wants the sound over the practical design then its on him.
Just let him be hahaha

Just tell him to stop acting like a little girl ricer and to stick one up his butt if he wants to hear a blow off.. If you buy a hard intake pipe and open filter and recirculate it you will be able to hear the bov just fine, or like another person said buy a GM MAF and MAFT and vta and be fine. You also must make sure the spring is set correct so you do not get compressor surge and ruin your turbo

well he e-mailed me this morning and told me he talked to one of the guys he knows who has an evo, and the dude told him that he's recirc'ing his BOV, so now it's ok.:ohdamn: i swear. it wasn't ok when i said i was doing it, but now that someone else told him it's ok, he's fine. -shakes head- i don't get men.

Some guys are just right until their friends are right...er.

;P

But basically, I have a Greddy Type S and it's recirc'd and you can CLEARLY hear it under every shift.

Just make sure to tell your husband that "if you want your car to be a complete crapper, go ahead and let it vent without the proper mods. Then when it's parked with the hood up while you're trying to fix your issue.. you'll wish you had just slapped that little L-bend hose on there and been happy."

I don't really find any enjoyment in either running pig rich between shifts OR paying upwards of $150-$200 JUST to hear a whistle noise.

Tell your husband to get on here and start learning about HIS car. As much as you want to work on it, tell him that you won't touch it until he knows how it works and why things are done the way they are.

BTW if you have the stock intake pipe on you can cut the snorkel out on the inside to give you some better flow and it will alter the sound of the BOV as well. Make sure you do a boost leak test also as those BOVs like to leak.

Yeah, so I hear. I'm going to get a hard intake. I think I found one that doesn't cost a bajillion dollars. All I really need is the pipe because I have the air filter already. And I figure the intake pipe itself doesn't have to be anything spectacular, I just needed all those little nipples on it so I can hook everything back up the way I need to.

This is the first 4g63 motor he has ever had, he's only ever had 420a's before, so I can kind of see why he's so goofy sometimes, but other times I'm like, "wtf?" I actually at one point argued with him about where the bov actually mounts to. He swore up and down it was on the intake, and I swore up and down right back it's actually the upper intercooler pipe. I was like "hunny... do I need to send you a picture?" Finally he was like "oh ok, yeah, it is the intercooler pipe, you're right" OY! Maybe he should just listen to me from now on since I spend so much time on here, and have actually READ how these things work and where they go, eh? :p

Tell your husband to stop being a ricer. You will hear your BOV fine, even recir'd, even more so if you have a metal intake pipe.

If you really want to vent it get ECM Link and run Speed Density.

Yeah, it has already been mentioned a couple of times in this thread, but an open filter and hard intake pipe will fulfill his ricer needs to still hear the BOV nice and loud while having it recirc'ed.
